ACC will be strong because of ESPN!!

Dec 16, 2012, 6:10 PM

This looks as if this will be the last year of SCE stroking by ESPN. They do have money in the ACC and any sensible buisness model says they want a return on invesment. It also shows the ACC getting the most money overall..

I thought we made the most money out of any conference in the 90s?

Article is from May. We have since gone back to 8 ACC games a year. I think other facts in the article are also flawed.

That blog is amazingly inaccurate.

How is it "amazingly inaccurate"?***

That article is old. May 2012? Haven't other conferences

Dec 16, 2012, 6:30 PM

received new deals since them and some are still in the process of negotiating?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes

Dec 16, 2012, 6:35 PM

I think the main point is still valid though since the ACC has an exclusive deal with ESPN while other conferences are spread over different networks.

ESPN is paying the ACC more than it is paying anyone else. Which makes sense since ESPN is getting more from the ACC than any other conference.

Looking at the big picture, the Acc mid level schools need to get off the pot and start getting bowl eligible.More big bowl games equal more conference money. I am convinced that all the expansion to the BIG VII is to imply we aare dead and need to leave when in all reallity it is the BIG vII that is on the ropes needing something like a defection to save it. All bias against the ACC. Just imagine Ajabama and lssnooze up in arms because there is no national love. Also there will be a playoff next year and this will break the SEC of multiple visits to a NC game. SEC is panicking because they know what goes down next year.

what have you seen that makes you think the SEC is panicking?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maybe, however $EC will trump everyone when they launch

their network. Once again, Swofford hasn't made a move toward an ACC network. Tim Brando indicated the other day that day one of the SEC network will be better than Texas and Big 10 networks and will bring in boat loads of money for the SEC.

Guys the gap in 5 years will be so wide that Clemson will be so far behind that we might as well be in the Southern Conference.

This is an old article, written by an ACC person.

Dec 16, 2012, 9:20 PM

The SEC has not yet announced its new TV setups. But there's lots of smoke coming out to indicate they are going to have a key to the Fort Knox gold vaults.

I am not confident that the ACC will come out of all this with a fair shake, when it's all said and done. Just look at the Orange Bowl deal that came out since this article was written. The Orange Bowl payout to the ACC and the opponent conference will be $55 million. The Sugar Bowl payout to the SEC and Big 12 will be $80 million. The Rose Bowl payout to the PAC and Big 10 will be $80 million. ACC teams will be locked out of the Sugar and Rose Bowls. But SEC, Big 12, PAC and Big 10 teams will be eligible for additional payout from the Orange Bowl. That's not good, not good at all.
