ACC Commish, a job for life???

Jan 28, 2013, 1:42 PM

Does anyone know how it works?

Is the ACC Commissioner job, a job for life?

Is there a contract? How long is it?

Does it come up for renewal?

Who does he answer to?

The ACC needs term limits or something of that nature, for

sure.

Great question...

Does feel like Swoffie has been there forever and there never seems to be a contract renewal or anything. Personally, I don't think the guy has done an awful job. There's been a few things that I don't like, but overall he's been ok.

He's done well considering the crap the football teams have

2nd highest footprint in terms of viewership and 5th best contract in terms of payout.

He has not done a great job. He is reactive instead of proactive. While everyone else is using their new Ipads we are still using DOS. That is the only way I can describe Swofford in a short and non demeaning way. I can give you the long and demeaning way though.

Sounds about right...***

Haven't seen any of Swoff's efforts to improve/promote the competency of game officials. They must have to be trained to be so BAD.

In order to convince anyone who is actually thinking...

you will have to probably say at least one specific argument that takes all factors into account.

I say he has done well based on results and considering the limitations that the football teams have created on their own.

ACC football did nearly everything possible to remove itself from relevance. Despite this hugely important factor, the ACC has some pretty decent TV deals. Anyone who blames Swofford for the fact the SEC, Big10, Pac 12 and Big 12 make more money than the ACC is ignoring that we have been less than competitive on the national stage for an extended amount of time.

People are going to hate Swofford regardless of facts. Most Clemson fans who dislike thinking too much maintain an emotional dislike for him because he is a UNC guy. People WANT to dislike him. People WANT to believe he was behind Clemson's extra ACC penalty. That's just lazy human nature. Find someone to get mad at, and have fun with it.

I don't care about the guy either way. I look at results and variables.

so the assitant commissioner has to throw him into the core

Jan 28, 2013, 2:20 PM

of the death star? can we include that in the television contract?

Well someone has to bring balance to the force

The Basketball empire will hopefully get Jedied by a football knight pretty soon.

Exactly. I'm thinking in the ACC Vader would be Roy Williams

or Coach K.

Re: ACC Commish, a job for life??? not sure of term

Jan 28, 2013, 2:35 PM

but I think he serves at the pleasure of the Presidents so in theory he could leave or be replaced almnost any time. I'm sure there is a contract that probably takes him from year to year or something.

Swoffs been there quite a while. I'd love to see some new blood during this time frame. what ever opportuniities or problems the playoffs create he will most likely not have to live with

He has been Commissioner for 16 years. That's about 6 too many.
