A Mention was read of a 12-1 CU vs a 11-1 TN scenario making CFP

Nov 13, 2022, 10:35 AM

with Clemson (first must beat a great throwing Tar Heel QB) being a 1-loss "Conference Champ" vs a 11-1 "NON-Conference" Champ in Tennessee who is in the super respected SEC..

and which one would the CFP Committee pick.

Geez, that is one good question but seems that the conference champ should be the invitee but the other team had the much better wins over much better teams.

Seems like Tigers might be left out in that scenario, sadly.

If we beat UNC in the ACCG, we would be 12-1.

If OSU, TCU and UGA go undefeated, it could come down to that. Let's hope USC (the real one) loses to UCLA, ND (which would help us) or in the PAC-12 champ vs washington.

UNC, Clem and USC (the real one) losing to ND will help sour the loss we had to them. They played OSU tough (21-10) and the losses to Marshall and Stanford are tough, but ND is a good football team.

Just throwing it out there, I hope I don't get banned for saying this, but I'm rooting for the Coots to beat UT and knock them out. Then they would be ranked for a week before we put them back where they belong in the State Championship. Anything is possible, right? Hahahahah... maybe not.

I watched Tennessee in person yesterday (from an end zone which gives a great view of routes and scheme the TV can’t show) and they are a much better team than the Tigers. Their offense threatens you in all parts of the field and they have one on one matchups with dig routes to the middle of the field for long gains. We only throw deep along the sidelines to covered receivers. Slants and deep crossers are pretty much indefensible with a QB who can throw the ball on the proper side of the receiver. And then they gut you with a run or a QB scramble who has wheels. They do throw the odd sideways pass but it’s a better design always heading upfield and the blocking receivers don’t stand at the line of scrimmage so there’s a little more room to operate. Their defense is much better than last year’s too. To state the obvious we won’t be pulling any Tee Higgins or Amari Rodgers out of Knoxville until Heupel moves on. And a 1 loss Tennessee will get in over a 1 loss Clemson easily.

You could argue that for sure... if ND beats USC, that would help us out a lot. TN lost by 14 to UGA in Athens. As much as I want to say the losses are comparable, how UGA has played this year, I think we will have a tough time with that one in the playoff committee meetings.

I think they will make any excuse to put a one loss UT in the playoff. SEC bias and Clemson playoff fatigue. I know we wear orange colored glasses, but the bias against us in the media can not be denied.

Reality is too that with WF, NC State and Cuse imploding out of the top 25, a win vs UNC in the ACCCG might be our only win vs top 25 teams. FSU is hanging around, but after this week, Wake and possibly NC State might drop out.

Probably FSU will stay and NC State might be 25. Let's pray for an FSU stomping of UF.

ND beating USC will put them close to top 10, but we lost to them.

I figure UNC will be around 10 when we play them in the ACCCG.

NCSU will lose to UNC - had they beat BC

Nov 13, 2022, 11:46 AM

They would still be ranked at year end but now they won’t. That said the committee made it clear the first release that they were playing attention to who was on the field in theses games when they were played. NCSU had Leary, SU had Garrett - we’re going to get credit for State like they were a Top 10-15 team. We’ll get credit for SU like they were top 25. We will probably ah e wins over 8 teams with .500 or better records which will probably be one of the highest #s. It’s a stat the committee has brought up many times when discussing various teams. FSU over UF and UL over UK would be good for us. TCU and USC losses and were a virtual lock. Probably just need 1 to lose.

Not really-they lost to Highly ranked UGAY. We lost to unranked ND. You know they will look for every possible reason to exclude them.

As much as I am sick and tired of hearing Clemson hater "Bear" on CGD, he said it best yesterday. (Paraphrasing) He said the CFP Committee loves Conference Champions and it weighs a lot in their decisions. Who knows what they will decide.
