A Defense For The Ages

Feb 7, 2013, 6:04 PM

Remember this backfield: Alexander, Baker, Kearse, and Blanks. In my opinion, give them a year and a half (if that) to mesh and they will be the best secondary in the nation. Hands down. Perfect blend of athleticism, speed, instincts, and raw ability.

Not to mention, EBO, Boulware, O'Daniel, Watson, Reader, Watson, Reader, and Jarrett should be an unstoppable force of d-linemen/linebackers. SEC-caliber talent all over our defense for the next few years if Venables can get them to really buy into his scheme and pay attention to assignments. I really feel if injuries can be avoided and guys can get up to speed quickly, we should be able to compete for the national championship within two years.

Idk, what you do you guys think? Or am I just indulging wishful thinking right now.

Very true. Apologies for leaving out those guys lol. Especially Pagano and Watkins. Those two will definitely have immediate impacts from the get-go next season and should wreak havoc all over the opposing o-line.

INDEED

With only so many positions on the field and everyone wanting to play this creates a motivation to work harder in the weight room, practice and on the field because no one wants to be left out. What a great problem to have if you are coach BV. I expect a new identity for Clemson football this year and its called a great team instead of Clemson's offense. Toughness, experience and talent on both sides of the ball = national contention. Anyone want to mention Lawson?

How about Vic Beasley

Good point. I posted too quickly without taking into account our guys already in place who are developing lol. I guess I got too excited about our new guys. Lawson should definitely provide instant depth and impact. Especially with a year of prep school and conditioning under his belt.
