I feel pretty much the same way about post 2000.

Anyone I would pay to see would have established themselves before then. I really can't think of any music I've bought from artist that established themselves after 2000.

bad elevator music. Slow, boring and uncreative. What happened to music? Plus, nobody hardly tours anymore.
I remember the days when there were 25+ major concert tours lined up in the area every summer (big arenas or stadiums) and you had to figure out how many you could afford to make.
Now, most of the shows I go to are at places like the Handlebar in Greenville or Orange Peel in Asheville.

There is ALWAYS great music out there, you just have to search for it rather than sit back and wait for it to drop in your lap. Waiting on the corporate radio sewerage that is spoon-fed to the sheeple to provide you with anything that has any soul or substance is, in effect, waving the white flag and giving up on music altogether. There are plenty of bands out there post-2000 that are fantastically substantive, if you're willing to put a little work in looking for them.

While I agree with you, I just don't really have the time.

Age, kids, work, etc. just make staying current much harder, as does living in a small town without a music scene. When we were in Charleston you had 96 Wave and the Music Farm. Since moving to Aiken in 2001 it's just difficult to remain plugged in.

Back when I was playing music with any regularity

Rock Hill had a somewhat decent local scene with a few different places to play, but that has all but disappeared. Charlotte had a great underground music scene that seems to faded away as well. Radio here has always been bad, for the most part 99.7 in Charlotte plays the same couple of dozen classic rock tunes and 95.7 plays a slightly deeper catalog, all of which I own and can listen to anytime I want. The internet, especially YouTube, allows me to search out tunes that help satiate my lifelong obsession with collecting music. I can remember back when I had a lot of magazine subscriptions, read a lot of reviews, and made trips to record stores across the Carolinas and Georgia in an effort to find the stuff I was looking for. It's easier now, but it does seem that there is less that appeals to me the older I get.

Of course, I do realize that my musical appetite is probably MUCH greater than most folks.

I can't listen to 99.7 anymore. I mean, ####, there is more RnR than Journey and Aerosmith.

Would love to have a list - personally I am a big Citizen Cope fan. I liked Will Hoge until he went country. Am anxiously awaiting the new Bonamassa/Beth Hart recording.

If you find something you like, find a show or at least buy a t-shirt. Then behave like a crazy person and talk to like minded individuals about these bands all the time.

I really enjoy some of todays music . There is a trend going back to folk, much like in my time going back to bluegrass. I like the indie bands, I love music.

We're trying to schedule our vacation around one of the

FEW dates that Van is playing in the UK this summer. He's top of the bucket list but hard to catch. Shows in the US are rare these days and shows in the UK are far and few between as well. And quick to sell out. And expensive. Van commands around $300 a ticket for the handful of shows he has lined up this summer.
