9 Conference games. What is the big deal? It is not any

Jul 23, 2012, 5:42 PM

different than when we played a 11 game schedule with 8 conference games. If there is a difference, do please make you case!

Jul 23, 2012, 5:46 PM

Good point. I think now, the difference is that we depend on the revenue from a seventh home game.

The NCAA will solve that problem by going to a 13 game

schedule once everyone has 9 conference games. They would love more $$$$.

The difference

Jul 23, 2012, 5:47 PM

Is that we (and other schools) have structured expenses after the 12 game schedule to practically require 7 home games, which with a 9 game conference schedule will require every other year to have no away games OOC.

patsys, schedule the big OOC game, and make up for in with ticket prices. Will have to manage the schedule so that on the 4-home conference game years, at least one of USC and big OOC is home. They don't sell out those patsy games anyway. Give away tons of tix to high schools.

EXACTLY!!!

Jul 23, 2012, 5:56 PM

The only downside is only one "tuneup" game ... which again, is usually a "snoozer".

Perhaps

Jul 23, 2012, 6:01 PM [ in reply to Clemson can solve that problem by dropping one of the ]

60,000 tickets sold to patsy game at $35 = 2.1 Million

80,000 tickets to big name game at $65 = 5.2 Million

Would seem to imply that is true.

May not be as big an issue as reported. Though I'm sure there are other things (concessions, etc) that need to be calculated.

But to get that big OOC game,

schools generally have to sign a Home & Home series. That would be one plus for us if ND came even with a limited schedule that we were a part of each year. Or a long term deal with UGa.

You can forget any type of deal with UGA.

Jul 23, 2012, 6:56 PM

Their AD said that if (when) the SEC goes to 9 games, they might drop Georgia Tech. If they are willing to drop GT, you know that Clemson will never see them on the schedule after 2014.

With an even number of conf games

Jul 23, 2012, 5:50 PM

The home and away conf games are the same each year so you can set up alternating home and home series with two ooc teams and keep the same number of home games.

the model used to be 6 home/5 away, not 7/4. Now it's 7/5

Jul 23, 2012, 6:43 PM

for Top 25 type schools. You still had an away game to schedule.

If ALL 5 of your away games are conference games, you have zero wiggle room to play a home/home with a big name program.

As much as it pains me to say..

Jul 23, 2012, 7:05 PM

From a national standpoint, USuC is seen as a quaility OOC game. Dang, did I really just write that? So saying that we need another one, would be even more OOC strength than many schools play. The good news for CU, but the bad news for my aurgument, is the the lamecocks will fall back into their hole and we will need to go looking for a good OOC game.

Never. Wouldn't have been possible with 4 conference away games. Although, I do believe we have played eight home games a time or two since going to the 12 game schedule.
