Pardon me for replying to my own poast butt…we showed this flick at the Y theater in the 1980s and I hollered out “this guy is from my home town!” When Cowboy Cowards credit came up. Someone replied “My God, where are you from?!”

When I went to New Zealand about 10 years ago, a local kiwi refused to shake my hand after hearing my Southern accent and said “I saw deliverance”, I called him a jerk

It's been on Netflix or Prime lately. I just watched a couple of times a few weeks ago.

Thanks for posting. I live on Lake Jocassee where part of this movie was filmed. I enjoyed listening to your post about the film.

Actually when they were really flooding it too. Most of the river was on lower end of Chattooga in Georgia. That movie is a classic!

Read the ###### and was talking to his agent, I would have loved to been a fly on the wall as they convince him getting buttrammed on the big screen would be a good career move.

Interesting read, thanks for posting

Growing up in Central, my family would drive up to the Jocassee Valley area and the Horsepasture area and Jumping Off Rock until Duke closed the area off in the early 70s to build Lake Jocassee and flood the area. The bulldozers and trucks at the beginning of Deliverance were footage of this project which lasted from '71 to '73.

I think Jumping Off Rock, which was hard to get to anyway, is closed now since it's sort of a bird sanctuary. The lake covered up a town and a cemetery; there's still an old lodge that sits at the bottom under 300 feet of water.

My Freshman Lit professor made us read the book. It's a lot more graphic than the movie was but it made you appreciate some parts of the movie rven more.
