the Christian God, the issues would be more clearly spelled out in the Bible.
In terms of number of words alone, you'd think they were practically non-issues.

I like how people pick and choose what is important based on convenience to their own lives.

Sounds better than my lunch. All I had was oatmeal with fruit and peanut butter lol.
Better be careful eating pork, or some may say you will burn in eternal hell fire lol. There was a bbq joint I used to eat at all the time in Clemson on 123. Maybe Big Dave's or something like that. I think it's closed now.

I have no exhaustive study but from reading the Bible...

for 55 years I honestly testify that the Bible doesn't cover many political issues. I think a better question might be why has sin become a part of a man's political view. Homosexuality is clearly a political issue because we've made it one.
Someday we might be arguing from political podium over whether Sunday or Saturday is the Sabbath. That makes as much sense to me though it's clear. No matter, neither should be part of politics. Dems are winning elections because they seem to have the correct political view of homosexuality. Pubs are losing touch with most voters over riding the self-righteous train.
Homosexuality is a sin. I don't even have to quote the Bible here because everyone knows what it says about men doing the nasty with other men. How many times does a boss really have to tell his subordinates not to do something? How many company rules must be written for a man to know that some particular behavior is against company policy.
Here's the difference in those examples and the Bible. You know that sexual harassment is wrong. You know it's unethical, at least, to require an employee to show her bewbs before she gets a raise or keeps her job.
Some of us know homosexuality is wrong, we however, are responsible only for our personal behavior according to the Bible. I will not answer for your sin and you likewise will not answer for mine. There are two factors involved in me telling you that sexual harassment is wrong and will get you fired. You'd have to be ignorant and my friend for me to warn you of the danger of committing sexual harassment.
I don't know why Christian must keep harping about homo's. It's none of our business who plugs which hole with what.
Abortion isn't mentioned in the scripture.

It isn't, though. You might as well say that the concept of the trinity isn't important because it isn't mentioned at all in the Bible. I'm also not sure why people would say the Biblical doctrine on abortion and gay marriage is unclear, since nearly all Christian sects were in agreement on both issues up until just a few years ago. The majority remains in agreement.
Further, while preventing abortion is much more important that getting the definition of state marriage right, Christians have only needed to become engaged on these issues in the last 40 years. While these two political issues still aren't treated as if they were supremely important (and they're not, for Christianity), they're only issues at all because of current cultural and political trends. Christian churches still preach the same thing they always have- Jesus is Lord. But the cultural notices, especially, where the church is at variance with it. That doesn't mean churches have made those issues any more important than they were.

It wasn't a joke. Maybe a grenade. But it is a serious question for anyone who (a) views the Bible as the primary guide for morality and (b) thinks gayness and/or abortion are evil.

as a general question?
I sure don't see anywhere in there what it talks about the federal government being involved in education or healthcare, to name a couple of examples.

Imagine that!
Also, emancipation from slavery is only in there once! So not having slaves can't be that important.
The thing is, no other text would be read in such a disingenuous way.
