Baseball: Johnson Earns ACC Honors; Polls Released

CLEMSON, SC - The Clemson baseball team remained second in Baseball

America and third in Collegiate Baseball in polls released on Monday.

The Tigers are behind number one Stanford in Baseball America and are

just three points behind the top-ranked Cardinal in Collegiate

Baseball.

Clemson went 3-0 last week with a win over the College of Charleston

and two wins over arch-rival South Carolina, including an 11-10

victory in 10 innings on Sunday. The Tigers will face College of

Charleston again on Wednesday at 3:00 PM before taking on Purdue in a

three-game set over the weekend.

Michael Johnson Named ACC Player of the Week

Junior smashed three home runs in two games against South Carolina

CLEMSON, SC - Clemson first baseman Michael Johnson has been named

ACC Player of the Week, the league announced today. The Georgetown,

SC native batted 6-11 (.545) with seven RBIs in three Tiger

victories last weekend.

Johnson hit the game-winning home run in Clemson's 9-7 victory over

South Carolina on Saturday and blasted two more home runs and a

double on Sunday as the Tigers defeated the Gamecocks 11-10 in 10

innings. The junior leads the team with four home runs on the season

and is the second Tiger to be named Player of the Week by the ACC in

2002. Jeff Baker shared the honors with NC State's Tim Coffield last

week.
