The NCAA Tournament baseball field will be announced on Memorial Day (May 27),
and if it goes as predicted by D1Baseball, it will be an interesting regional weekend at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
The outlet's latest projection has Clemson as the No. 6 national seed, hosting both instate rival South Carolina as a 2-seed and College of Charleston as a 3-seed. Clemson went 2-0 versus South Carolina in the rain-altered, multi-site series, facing former Tigers baseball coach and now Gamecocks assistant Monte Lee again. In other ties, Lee went to the College of Charleston and coached there before joining Clemson, and current Cougars coach Chad Holbrook was the pitching coach at South Carolina before resigning there. It is predicted opposite an Indiana State regional for the Super Regional round by D1Baseball. Elsewhere, Baseball America also predicts Clemson as a No. 6 national seed, hosting San Diego, James Madison and Austin Peay. BA has a Super Regional pairing with the East Carolina regional. Per WarrenNolan.com, Clemson has a No. 7 RPI with a No. 9 strength of schedule. The Tigers return to action on Thursday in the final ACC regular season series, hosting Boston College starting at 6 p.m. (ACCNX). Clemson looks to clinch the Atlantic Division with a series win for at least a No. 2 seed in next week's ACC Baseball Championship competition in Charlotte.
