Clemson shortstop projected in MLB draft first round

Clemson's Logan Davidson could land at an organization not too far down the road.

The Charlotte, North Carolina product is projected by MLB.com to go to the Atlanta Braves with the 21st overall pick on June 3 (MLB Network/MLB.com).

The lineup-leading shortstop has also had top-15 predictions for Baseball America, with the Philadelphia Phillies a potential landing spot at No. 14, and CBS calls for a top-20 selection to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

"When in doubt, go with the switch-hitting shortstop with strong defensive and baserunning chops," CBS analyzed. "The knock against Davidson is his performance with wood bats. He's put up a .202/.304/.266 batting line in two summers in the Cape Cod League, which has created questions about his long-term offensive viability. This late in the draft though, every player is going to have flaws. It's about finding players with flaws you think are correctable."

The junior paces the Tigers in batting average (.315), hits (58), doubles (15), triples (2), home runs (13) and RBIs (46).

Davidson earned second-team All-ACC honors last season, hitting .292 with 15 home runs, 46 RBIs and 60 runs.
