Overall Report Analysis-Grades and Comments:
Offense-Rushing
Interior running game-Outstanding. Wake Forest decided that they were going to load the box and force Clemson to throw the ball. The Tiger offensive line did a great job against stacked numbers. James Davis and C.J. Spiller once again proved to be tough, physical ground gainers. This was a great effort against one of the best-run defenses in the country.
Perimeter running game-The Tigers did not run on the perimeter much but were fairly successful when they did.
Option game-N/A.
Draws-Clemson did not run a bunch of draws.
Short yardage running game-Solid once again.
Yards after contact-Terrific. Both Davis and Spiller broke tackles and had nice yards after the first hit. Spiller’s big touchdown run came on after contact.

Offense-Passing
Pass protection-Excellent once again. The Tiger offensive line did not allow a sack and has only allowed four all season.
Underneath passing game-OK. Wake did a nice job of keeping everything in front of them here.
Intermediate passing game-Interceptions and tipped balls hurt.
Vertical passing game-Great early with passes to Kelly and Davis. In the second and third quarters Proctor made a few mistakes.
Screens-Wake did a nice job of tackling in the screen game.
Drops-I can’t remember too many drops.
Yards after catch-OK.
QB throws on time-I thought Proctor held the ball too long this week. I would like to see him throw it on time.

Offense-Overall
First down yardage-Good. The Tigers stayed in front of the chains for the most part.
Third down conversion-Clemson was only 4 of 12 on third downs.
Big Plays-Spiller’s run was about as big as it gets other than Adams’ heroic play.
Trick plays-N/A.

Defense-Overall
Tackling-Very good. I thought it might have been Clemson’s best tackling game of the year.
First down yardage-Great job here. Wake Forest was in second and third and long often.
Third down conversion-Clemson held Wake to just 2 of 11 on third downs.
Limit of Big Plays-Wake hit the trick play on a great throw and catch but did not hit any other long plays.

Defense-Running game
Interior running game-Outstanding. The Tigers held Wake to 31 yards of rushing offense.
Perimeter running game-Excellent as well. Wake tried a few plays on the perimeter but Clay and company ran them down. Coleman and Gaddis gave great run support.
Option game-Wake was very limited here.
Draws-The Deacs ran a few draws but none were successful.
Short yardage running game-Excellent. I thought a key play in the fourth quarter was Clemson stopping the Deacs on 3rd and 1 when McKissic and Scott stopped Harris. Spiller went 72 yards on the following drive.
Yards after contact-The Tigers did a great job here.

Defense-Passing Game
Pressure-Good. Clemson had four sacks but there were times where Skinner had too much time.
Underneath passing game coverage-Good, Gaddis plays the underneath coverage well. The linebackers did a nice job here.
Intermediate passing game coverage-Wake hit some crossing routes that hurt the Tigers.
Vertical passing game coverage-Clemson did limit Wake’s deep threats.
Screens-The corners played well and limited Wake’s screens.
Passes broken up-Coleman had the only pass break up all day.
Open field tackling-Excellent. Wake does not have the best athletes but the Tigers still tackled well.

Special Teams
Kickoff returns-Clemson did not return a kick off.
Kick off coverage-Poor. The first play of the game set the tone for a pathetic special teams day. The fact that Clemson had to squib kick it all day is embarrassing.

Punt return/block-Poor. The Tigers did not return a kick and let too many hit the ground and roll inside the five-yard line.

Punt coverage-Snap, protection, punt, coverage-Snaps were good. Protection was good. Coverage was good but punts were not. Clemson averaged 34 yards per punt.

Field Goals/extra points-snap, hold, protection, kick-As bad as I have ever seen. I can’t remember a high school team that looked that poor. Low kicks will get you beat. There is obviously a confidence factor that has set in and it needs to get fixed before it costs the Tigers a game.

Overall Team
Energy, Enthusiasm, Leadership-Good. Clemson came out with energy. They stayed energetic despite facing adversity of the opening kick and four turnovers. The team stayed focused and showed heart.

Coaching
Emotionally prepared-There was no Wake let down. This team was focused. The turnovers were the major story because the offense moved the ball and the defense shut down Wake. Field position and turnovers were a lot to overcome but this team did it.
Game plan-Very good on both sides of the ball. Clemson shut down the Deacs offense by holding them to 219 yards. Once again the offense went over 400 yards.
Adjustments-I guess the squib kick is a good adjustment but boy is that hard to watch.
Personnel-Nice job of shuffling in Davis and Spiller. The wide receiver corps were hit hard after the loss of Taylor but the staff did well here.
Time outs-This was not a big factor again this week.

Comments:

Korn is solid to Clemson. He cares nothing about stats. He only cares about winning and nothing helps an offense to win like a great running game.
