Friday E-Mail Bag

Friday E-Mail Bag
Each Friday I publish your comments and answer your questions. To submit a comment or questions please e-mail me at mickeyplyler@hotmail.com.

Mickey,

On more than occasion, Tiger Net members have complained about disruptive and negative posters. I realize that it is a given these people will post under various aliases and it would be impossible to police them even if you wanted to do that. As an alternative, how difficult would it be to have an ignore function so readers of the board wouldn't have to read these post and perhaps deny them the attention they crave? I would be willing to PAY for the ability to ignore them.

Bigatiger

Bigatiger,
Thanks for the e-mail. I think everyone has the right to express their opinions and I don’t know of anyone that I agree with all of the time. However, I do like your idea of being able to ignore a poster. I will bring it up to Crump. Thanks for the suggestion.

Mickey,
Do you know if you have to have tickets to get in the Game Day event next Saturday? Thanks.

Belinda

Belinda,
This should be a huge event next Saturday in Littlejohn. Gates will open at 8:30 and admission is free. Also, you do not need a ticket for the Duke game to get into the Game Day event. The other thing I found out is the record for ESPN Game Day for basketball is 5,400 and I think we have a chance to break that mark next Saturday morning. They will have promotional items there to give away. It should be a fun event.

Mickey,

Do you have any information on Ricky Chaney, the Tigers LB commit and any other possible LB commits we "may" get?

Thanks

Billy

Billy,
Chaney is a linebacker/safety prospect that is a physical player. He runs like a safety but has a frame to add some weight and play linebacker in college. I think he can project into a good coverage guy and edge pass rusher as a linebacker. Clemson is still heavily involved with Justin Parker of Beaufort, SC. He has been to Clemson and South Carolina. He may visit LSU and Georgia Tech in the next two weeks. At this point I think he stays in state he now says Clemson is his new leader. Ferlando Bohanna is a linebacker from Memphis who is committed to Mississippi State but may visit Clemson later this month.

Hi Mickey,

Thanks for your commentary on recruiting this week (The Two Year Outlook). I agree that recruiting rankings and the observation of a single year can be misleading, but I feel a sense of urgency in Clemson recruiting LB and WR that can help us in 2010. Those two positions were definitely issues that hurt us on both sides of the line of scrimmage.

I hope Ryan is doing well.

Best,

Kirk

Kirk,
I agree that LB and WR are two positions that may help the most in 2010 but in the long run I think the defensive line and the secondary may prove to be the strength of this class. I think we could see three or four starters emerge later from the group of defensive backs.

Hey Mickey,

As always, I enjoy reading the blog. Thanks for writing a little recruiting news in Monday's blog. In it, you mention Clemson only has 1 or 2 more scholarships available. By my count, Clemson has 26 scholarships available (see attached Excel spreadsheet). To my knowledge, Jay and Hunter have received medical hardship waivers, which don't count against the 85 limit. And the only walk-on I know of to receive a scholarship is Philip Price. Are there other walk-ons or some the staff plans to add on scholarship later? With the QB situation, I could certainly see them doing this. Do you think the staff wants to hold at 20-22 scholarships this year, saving a few for walk-ons and the rest for next year's recruiting class?

Mark

Mark,
There are other former walk-ons that are on scholarship. Players like Casey Nobles and Ben Ramsey may be on scholarship again next season. Clemson will not turn down a great player in the final days but I don’t they will get more than three more commitments. I am not sure how many walk-ons will be on scholarship but I do know that the senior class is small and Clemson needs the scholarships for the 2011 class.

Mickey,
Who you think will be starting QB for Clemson?

From your Chick-fil-a Ban the Woo Hoo Committee

Chick-fil-a Ban the Woo Hoo Committee,
First, you guys were awesome at the game Wednesday. Your grass roots efforts to end the Woo Hoo is working. I will remind readers to say “Go Tigers! Go Tigers Go!” instead of woo hooing.

I think Kyle Parker will be the starter but I would not be surprised if Tajh Boyd closed the gap and played significant snaps in September. If Boyd plays well or Parker does not then O could see Boyd getting more snaps each week.

Mick,
I was at the UNC game last night and can’t sleep because of the excitement. Was that as loud as you have heard Littlejohn? I am only a sophomore but it was the loudest I have heard yet. Thanks.

Chris

Chris,
I was not in Littlejohn in 1980 when Clemson upset top-ranked Duke but they say that one was extremely loud. That was the game where people were sitting in the aisles and the attendance record was broken. The loudest I have attended was the Wake Forest game of 1996. That one was a zoo. I will say that Littlejohn was rocking Wednesday night. You and your classmates deserve credit for the effort.

Mickey,
Did Trevor Adair resign or did he get fired? Was he really fired because of a noise violation? Have we really lost an entire season of soccer because of a noise violation?

Bennett

Bennett,
Officially Trevor resigned. He was forced to resign, so take it for what it is worth. It would have been nice for the judicial system to work before we rushed to judgement but the athletic director decided he was guilty until proven innocent. So, yes, Trevor is not here because of a noise violation. But the real reason he is gone is an athletic administration that will not stand up for their coaches.

Below is an e-mail I received last night from Jake Nicolopulos’ mom, Ann Louise Nicolopulos. I thought some of you would enjoy an update:

Five weeks ago our lives changed forever. It truly seems like it was a lifetime ago - December 9, 2009 at 7:30 AM. But, time has not stood still and we have made so much progress since then. In one way, I almost refuse to look back - I choose only to look forward. When I do allow myself to return to that day and the few days that followed, I have to shut those memories off immediately - it is just too painful. Instead, I focus on where we are now. Jake is alive - I have my son - and he is getting better.

As most of you know, Jake had a left brain stroke that affects his right side movement as well as his speech. We are getting movement slowly back in the arm and in the leg. He is up to about 12 words that he can say. In general, Jake has a good attitude -there have been times that Jake has exhibited "attitude" but I believe it is due to his frustration with the inability to communicate.

Tonight I walked into his room and he was watching a clip on line. The headline was entitled 'Clemson recruit suffers stroke' and then there was a video of his playing in a game. He seemed to be studying each of his plays and was so interested in looking at what he had done right in the play and what he could have done better. I know the look and the preparation as I have seen this for years as Jake and his dad would spend hours studying and breaking down film after every game, play by play. Craig asked him if he still wanted his latest highlight film turned in (as requested from Rivals pre stroke) and Jake looked at his dad as if to say why would I not. So expect a new highlight film on Jake coming soon.

This journey is not an easy one and we have to be very patient. God is out front - we are comforted by knowing that He has experienced all the trials that He asks us to endure and He would not ask us to go down this path if we were not capable of handling it. 'God is in every tomorrow,
Therefore, I live for today,
Certain of finding at sunrise,
Guidance and strength for my way;
Power for each moment of weakness,
Hope for each moment of pain,
Comfort for every sorrow,
Sunshine and joy after rain.'

I truly believe that God has a great plan for the life of Jake Nicolopulos and as Coach Swinney said to Jake : "You can't have a testimony without a test." As a family, we look forward to see what God has planned for all of us as a result of this event.

I hope that Clemson finsihes up STRONG in recruiting - I just don't understand how any kid who had the opportunity to play for this school and under this staff could choose any other place. Clemson is such a special place and even though I am in the heart of Georgia Tech and Georgia Bulldogs fans, I always let everyone I meet know just how special Clemson is. That is easy for me to do because I believe it with all of my heart and I love my school.

Please continue to pray for Jake to make a full recovery. I do daily updates and prayer requests on caringbridge.org. Sign up and just put in "jakenicolopulos" and you will be able to read the journal entries. Thank you for caring and praying for Jake!

God Bless You and GO TIGERS!! AND WE BEAT UNC LAST NIGHT - YES!!!

Comments:

I don't understand why Big A Tiger can't just ignore posts from people that he disagrees with. Nobody forcing him to read everything that appears on his computer screen or open every piece of junk mail in his mailbox, is there?

"So, yes, Trevor is not here because of a noise violation. But the real reason he is gone is an athletic administration that will not stand up for their coaches."

He's not our coach anymore because he had a very inconsistent soccer program (but mostly just mediocre) and was fighting with his teenage daughter in their front yard at 2 AM.

Trevor is a good guy by all accounts, but there is no excuse for what he did - especially since he wasn't really doing much to advance our soccer program.

Bigatiger... we already have an "ignore button." It's called a mouse. Don't click on the posts from people you don't want to read. Doesn't get any more simple than that. I only read about 8-10 posters on here who I find either entertaining or interesting. All others are ignored.

I gottta tell ya, Mick. This place goes from the ridiculous to the sublime.

Now we need the mods to keep bigAtiger from clicking his mouse.

LOL!!!
