Overall Report Analysis-Grades and Comments:
Offense-Rushing
Interior running game- James Davis ran as hard as anytime I can remember. He might have broken more tackles than any game of his I can remember. The offensive line looked in sync and dominated.
Perimeter running game- Davis, C.J. Spiller and Jacoby Ford all hit on big plays on the perimeter.
Option game-N/A.
Draws-Clemson did not have to run a lot of true draws because there was not a need.
Short yardage running game- The Tigers converted seven of eight short yardage situations.
Yards after contact- Terrific. Davis was powerful and the State defenders did not have a lot of success getting him to the ground.

Offense-Passing
Pass protection- Excellent. The offensive line gave up only one sack and Harper was hurried only twice.
Underneath passing game- Harper did a great job of hitting the underneath guy in stride so he can maximize yardage. The receiver, back or tight end did not have to adjust to the ball in the air.
Intermediate passing game- Outstanding again. Harper had time and was sharp. The receivers only had two drops that I can remember.
Vertical passing game- The Tigers went deep a couple of times with the best looking pass going to Rendrick Taylor.
Screens- Slips screens and bubble screens look great when Ford and Spiller get the blocking like they did Saturday.
Drops- I can only remember two drops.
Yards after catch- Kelly broke a few tackles and the tight ends made some extra yards. Spiller looked great after the catch.
QB throws on time- Harper does a great job of throwing on time. He also sees the field very well.

Offense-Overall
First down yardage-25 of 41 first down attempts went for four or more yards.
Third down conversion- Nine of 18 is outstanding. Clemson won first down and therefore they were able to win third down.
Big Plays- The Tigers had three runs of 34 or more yards and eight passes of 15 or more yards.
Trick plays- N/A

Defense-Overall
Tackling-This might be the best tackling effort of the season. Like the FSU game, Clemson did a fantastic job of finishing the tackle.
First down yardage- The Tigers held State to less than four yards on 13 of 21 first down attempts.
Third down conversion- I thought the defense did a great job of getting off of the field.
Limit of Big Plays- State had only five plays of 10 or more yards.

Defense-Running game
Interior running game- The defensive tackles controlled the line of scrimmage much better than last season. State had little running run between the tackles.
Perimeter running game- With the exception of a few breakdowns in the open field, I thought the Tigers pursued well and tackled well to limit the running game.
Option game- N/A
Draws- Clemson shut down the draw much better this week. Recognition was much better.
Short yardage running game- State did convert of five of six short-yardage situation.
Yards after contact- Brown, Blackman, Dunlap and these skill guys were held in check by the Clemson defense. I thought this was a big key.

Defense-Passing Game
Pressure- Ricky Sapp played perhaps his best game. Rashaad Jackson and Phillip Merling also had pressures.
Underneath passing game coverage- The Wolfpack tried to use the underneath game but the Tigers tackled well.
Intermediate passing game coverage-State was able to hit the tight end in the middle of the field a few times but Clemson limited the intermediate passing game for the most part.
Vertical passing game coverage- Chancellor had the pick on the first drive and Hamlin had one later on a trick play. The secondary did a great job of limiting the big plays to Dunlap.
Screens-The Tigers limited State’s ability to spring Blackman on the screen game. State usually throws to the backs more in the screen game but Brown was not a factor either.
Passes broken up- Byron Maxwell and Ricky Sapp had the two pass break ups.
Open field tackling- Excellent. The Tigers were very impressive in the open field.

Special Teams
Kickoff returns- Clemson has not been able to hit the kick-off returns consistently. I am not sure Spiller or Ford is a natural returner.
Kick-off coverage- Poor on the one kick-off return but also give Blackman credit because he is excellent. The rest of the kick-off coverage was excellent.

Punt return/block- 5.5 yards per return is not too bad but State did a nice job of kicking the ball high enough to limit the big return.

Punt coverage-Snap, protection, punt, coverage- Everything looked great again. The snaps were good and the protection was excellent. I thought Manners kicked the ball well also.

Field Goals/extra points-snap, hold, protection, kick- Buchholz missed the one short field goal but he was on after that. Four of six is good but the only bad miss was the short one early. He is also battling an ankle injury that does not get time to rest because of soccer.

Overall Team
Energy, Enthusiasm, Leadership- The team did not appear to be “sky high” but they executed very well.

Coaching
Emotionally prepared- The Tigers were prepared because the staff pounded them with all of the talk about how Clemson has not always played well in games like this. I thought this team came in very prepared.
Game plan- Excellent on both sides of the ball. Offensively it looked very balanced. Defensively it looked much more aggressive.
Adjustments- N/A.
Personnel-I thought the offense did a great job of getting Davis and Spiller more involved. I also liked the way the tight ends were more involved as well.
Time outs-N/A.

Mickey --

Before someone bitches and calls you an idiot, there is either a typo or an incorrect stat on the # of sacks the Tigers had as a defensive goal.

Blackman also almost broke the first kick-off return. Buchholz had to make that stop.
