Mickey,
I realize that dual-QB talk is normally scoffed at among many football fans, but if the QB race is still tight enough to really fluster Swinney and Napier at the end of fall camp, would a dual-QB system not be given some consideration?
If memory serves, Virginia Tech has done it the past two seasons with Tyrod Taylor & Sean Glennon en route to two ACC titles. Florida did it in ‘06 en route to the SEC & BCS titles. Oregon used about three backup QBs last year en route to a 42-31 Holiday Bowl win over No. 13 Oklahoma State (would’ve-been starter Nate Costa injured himself in fall camp and never played) and a 10-win season.
Risky, I know. But there is a track record of success...at least at other schools. Plus Swinney strikes me as an outside-the-box thinker because he’s doing so many things differently from years past (which I like), so I’m wondering if he is toying with the idea.
I realize he’s probably not thinking about it hard now, but what if it comes down to a neck-and-neck competition by end of August?
Marc
Marc,
Great question. Thanks for the e-mail. I agree with you. I think it has to be a consideration. More importantly, I think it is a possibility. The thing we must realize is that there is a lot of time between now and September and a lot can change. Also, a lot can change throughout a season. The good news is the staff feels like they have three good players at quarterback. I know most don’t like the idea of dual quarterbacks but I have no problem with it. What if Korn is not ready in changing his motion now but continues to work through the summer and works out the kinks. What if Parker continues to get better over the summer and looks like a guy that can lead this team to wins? Why limit yourself, especially early. I think it is very possible to see both quarterbacks playing especially in September.
Mickey,
Thank you for the update on Ryan and I hope he continues to get better and better each and every day. May you and your family have a great Easter.
Peace,
Ryan B.

The Lord is good and has answered our prayers regarding Martha Bryan Carr. This sweet little 4 year old is out of ICU and safely at home with her parents. Thanks to all who lifted a prayer for her. Her name may be removed from the list
Sincerely
Terry
Terry,
Of all of the e-mails I get the ones that are the most special are the ones with this kind of ending. I am so happy for Martha and her family. Tell her we said hello. Happy Easter!
Mickey,
I will give you an example of Danny's "presence". In 1979 Clemson was invited to play in the Peach Bowl. Danny didn't want the team to spend the whole holidays in Clemson with all the students gone. So they exercised a then rule that said a team had to practice within a certain radius of either the school or the bowl site (I can't remember which). Danny chose Charleston and they used The Citadel's facilities. This was a big event for us in the Lowcountry. This was before the internet and all we had to keep us apprised of Clemson was the Newsless Courier. We put on a dinner for the team on the hanger deck of the USS YORKTOWN. When the team arrived we sat them down front. We then had various people go to the podium to speak and welcome the team. For example, Clemson Trustee from Charleston Dr. Derrick. Well, the team paid no attention to these speakers and chatted among themselves. However, when the MC called on Danny to speak they instantly stopped talking and straightened up in their chairs. All their eyes were on Danny while he spoke. I don't know if it was fear or respect or both but it was certainly noticeable.
John
John,
It was amazing to see how he had full control of the room at all times. He commanded their attention. I think it was probably more so after the matured even more into his career. Plus, winning helps. I did not know the story you shared but it is another example of why he is who he is.
Mickey,
It really bothers me when Clemson fans make a big deal about what goes on at USC. Why on earth should Clemson fans worry about a school that simply is no closer to being a threat to Clemson football. We heard how it would be different when Lou Holtz arrived, we heard the same when the ol'ball coach arrived and yet here we are and nothing has changed. Let the USC fans be the classless ones who call us taters and make fun of the University in general. When you lose year after year it’s the only fun they have.11out of 13 in football and USC hasn't won 2 in a row since 69-70.Does anyone remember the last time they beat us in basketball? They will always be in the shadows of Clemson and it burns them up.
Brian
Brian,
We have an important rivalry with the Gamecocks and I think it is important to have a lot of pride in the rivalry. That pride might mean obsessing a little when it comes to the rival. Another reason I think we see it is because Clemson has not won any ACC titles recently. Fans sometimes look for positives to hang their hats on and Clemson fans don’t have to look very far to find success when it comes to beating South Carolina.
