Mickey,
I am confused about the ACC championship picture. If BC does not lose until CU they go to Jacksonville right? Or does the divisional lose weigh more than two conference loses. How does it work? I can't see CU going to Jacksonville if they win out there conference games and BC has no other loses. Help me!
Larry
Larry,
Boston College could go undefeated until the Clemson game but lose to the Tigers and Miami the following week and not win the division but only if Clemson wins out in the conference. All conference wins and losses count the same. Where the division games matter most is only when it comes down to tie breakers. The first tie breaker is head-to-head and the second is divisional record. Hope this is helpful. There is also a full run down of the complete tie breakers on www.theacc.com.
Hello Mickey:
I found the following information on the Internet. I guess the rumors may be true. I guess Willy Korn has an injury and we are going to request a medical hardship waiver for him as he has only partcipated in two games during the 2007 season. Is that your guess? They sure seem quiet about any possible injury.
Kirk
Medical Hardship Waiver
If a student-athlete suffers a season-ending injury or illness after competing in a limited amount of competition during a particular academic year, he/she may qualify for a medical hardship waiver which would allow him/her an additional season of competition during the five-year period of eligibility. To qualify for a medical hardship:
(a) the student-athlete's injury or illness must occur in one of the four seasons of intercollegiate competition or subsequent to the first day of classes in the student-athlete's senior year in high school;
(b) the injury or illness must occur prior to the completion of the first half of the playing season that concludes with the NCAA championship in that sport and must result in incapacity to compete for the remainder of that playing season; and
(c) the injury or illness must occur when the student-athlete has not participated in more than two contests/dates of competition or 20% of the institution's scheduled contests/dates of competition in his/her sport (whichever number is greater).
Kirk,
I think the decision has all but been made. Clemson will apply for the medical hardship unless he is pressed into duty. Last week was the best example of that.
Hello Mickey,
Firstly, my blood runneth orange and my question is on our stadium. Can you please tell me why the media refers to LSU's stadium as Death Valley as well? Clemson is Death Valley so what are the reasons behind the media referring to LSU this way?? GO CLEMSON TIGERS!!
Thank you and Forever Loyal,
Angelo
Angelo,
Both school claim the nickname and both claim they used it first. Clemson’s claim goes back to the 1950s when Presbyterian College head coach Lonnie McMillan took teams into Memorial Stadium and usually were defeated very soundly. The games were usually early in the season and the heat might have been a factor but he said his teams usually got kill in “Death Valley.”
Mickey,
Add another one to the Tommy Bowden supporters. We are here. Personally I hope TB coaches his entire career in Clemson.
Would people really still want him fired if he goes 9-3? Or even 8-4? Or possibly 10-2? This is the year of the upset.
Keep up the good work.
Bubba
Bubba,
Thanks for the e-mail. I think a lot of the support or detractors will get their ammunition depending on who the wins and losses are against and how they look in each win and loss.
Mickey,
First time emailer...I wanted to agree with your previous comments on the toughness of the team. I remember pregame atmosphere in the Peach Bowl a few years back when Duane Coleman ran to the other side of the field (the Tennessee side) and purposefully tried to start a fight by pushing the other player. If the refs had been watching he probably would have gotten thrown out.
Now, I'm not advocating fighting, etc, but that kind of "fight" and "fearlessness" seems to be lacking at times. I hope it is just because we have a young team. I do have confidence that this team is going to do better things in the second half of this year and next year with experience. I support Bowden and think we need to see what he can do with his best recruits as they mature.
Not to sound like a Coot, but I do think we have a bright future.
Take care and Go Tigers!
Ross
Ross,
Thanks and feel free to e-mail more often. This team needs to find some grit and toughness. They will face another physical team in College Park on Saturday so they better strap it on and get ready for a tough contest. I would love to see this team get tougher but I am not sure that will happen this season.
Mickey,
Is Andre Ellington going to back out of his commitment to us? Where do you think Dontavious Jackson will commit on Wednesday? Thanks and Go Red Sox!
Thomas
Thomas,
I think things are OK with Ellington but he will still look around a little. South Carolina was not recruiting him at all and made a check-up phone call to see how he was doing and he told them he would come for an unofficial visit. He went to Kentucky and liked it. As long as Clemson wins a few games he will sign with the Tigers.
I think Jackson will commit to Georgia on Wednesday. It is so difficult to get a top notch player out of the backyard of the Bulldogs.
