Overall Report Analysis-Grades and Comments:
Offense-Rushing
Interior running game-I know the opponent was bad but the interior running game worked to near perfection. The offensive line made their initial contact with defensive front then, in text book fashion for zone blocking scheme, they moved to the second level and got to the linebackers. James Davis read the blocks extremely well again and had a big day. C.J. Spiller enjoyed some nice runs again. Demerick Chancellor had another 100-yard day.
Perimeter running game-Davis and Spiller made some nice runs on the outside zone play. It was one of the first times in recent games that they have looked to use their speed more on the perimeter.
Option game-N/A.
Draws-Davis, Spiller and Chancellor ran well out of the shotgun again this week.
Short yardage running game-The Tigers were eight for nine on short yardage runs including a 64-yarder by Davis.
Yards after contact-Excellent once again. Davis is so much stronger this season compared to last year. Chancellor also broke a few tackles.

Offense-Passing
Pass protection-The Tigers played a bunch of offensive linemen and protected Proctor and Harper all night. Clemson has allowed only four sacks all year and did not allow one to the Owls.
Underneath passing game-Proctor and Harper were sharp all night. Their accuracy was as on as it had been all season. Ford took a bubble screen and turned on the jets for a 55-yard touchdown right before half time. It was also nice to see Alex Pearson score his second touchdown.
Intermediate passing game-It was nice to see Michael Palmer come up with a nice catch.
Vertical passing game-Thomas Hunter came down with his longest reception of the season. Diamonde hauled in a nice fade route but could not convert due to the fumble.
Screens-Bubble screens were on as witnessed by Ford’s beautiful run.
Drops-The Tigers only had one incompletion all night so drops were not a factor.
Yards after catch-Excellent especially Ford in the absence of Stuckey.
QB throws on time-I thought Proctor looked the best he had all season by planting his back foot and letting the ball go on time.

Offense-Overall
First down yardage-The Tigers were good on first down but maybe not as productive in the running game on first down as they have been.
Third down conversion-Two stories here. First they converted on four of the five third downs they faced. The other story is they only faced five third downs.
Big Plays-Davis, Ford, Spiller, Hunter and Proctor turned in big plays. The Tigers had 16 plays of 10 or more yards.
Trick plays-No need for tricks in this one.

Defense-Overall
Tackling-I thought the tackling effort was below Clemson’s staff expectations. Many of Browns’ 121 yards came after a missed tackle.
First down yardage-Temple was actually pretty good on first down. Six of their 23 first down plays went for 10 or more yards.
Third down conversion-The Tigers buckled down on third down and allowed Temple only 2 of 12 on third downs.
Limit of Big Plays-After the first play from scrimmage, the Owls had few big plays. Temple had four plays over 14 yards.

Defense-Running game
Interior running game-Brown was a pretty good running back and his effort was noted.
Perimeter running game-The Tigers had too much speed for the Owls on the edge but missed tackles did hurt.
Option game-N/A.
Draws-I thought Clemson responded well to the draws. The defenses has done a good job of reading the draws for the most part all season long.
Short yardage running game-Temple only had two short yardage situations and Clemson shut them down both times. Excellent news here.
Yards after contact-Again, I thought Clemson’s tackling was a step back from recent performances.

Defense-Passing Game
Pressure-The Tigers were able to pressure the passer almost all night. Adams, Alexander and Sapp had sacks and Cannon recorded two sacks on the night.
Underneath passing game coverage-Clemson ran to the ball well. I thought they did a nice job of limiting the underneath catch and runs.
Intermediate passing game coverage-The Tigers held temple to 110 yards through the air. Coverage was fairly tight all night.
Vertical passing game coverage-The Owls did hit a touchdown down the seem which was a disappointment.
Screens-Clemson limited Temple here. I thought the Owls would have screened more.
Passes broken up-Chancellor had the only pass break up on the night.
Open field tackling-Poor. The Tigers missed opportunities for more sacks by missing tackles.

Special Teams
Kickoff returns-Ford returned all three kicks for the Tigers for 99 yards including a 49-yarder.
Kick off coverage-Pathetic. We covered this in the blog on Friday. I don’t think I need to go into any more detail. Please see Friday’s blog for more details on my suggested solutions.

Punt return/block-Spiller had a nice 14-yard return. The Tigers did a better job of fielding the punts this week.

Punt coverage-Snap, protection, punt, coverage-Clemson punted only once and it was Jimmy Maners first as a Tiger. He boomed a nice high punt in his only effort.

Field Goals/extra points-snap, hold, protection, kick-One extra point was nicked but I thought there was big improvement from this group in one week.

Overall Team
Energy, Enthusiasm, Leadership-Outstanding. Clemson could have slept through this one but the team and staff came out and sent a message with 49 points in the first half and 63 points in the first three quarters. Remember Clemson only beat temple by 30 last season.

Coaching
Emotionally prepared-Excellent. Both side of the ball had their units ready to play.
Game plan-The game plans were not a big factor because of the talent level difference but I liked both game plans.
Adjustments-This was not a factor.
Personnel-Clemson played more people again this week. I love seeing all of the young peope getting opportunities.
Time outs-Again this week, time outs were not a factor.
