Overall Report Analysis-Grades and Comments on:
Offense-Rushing
Interior running game-Good. The Eagles did a nice job of limiting the Tigers to 136 yards but Clemson was able to run effectively inside.
Perimeter running game-Good. The Tigers did not try a lot of perimeter running plays.
Option game-None
Draws—This was not a big part of the game plan.
Short yardage running game-OK but the 1st and goal at the three really hurt. Spiller run for minus four yards was one of the biggest plays of the game.
Yards after contact-OK. I thought BC tackled pretty well.
Offense-Passing
Pass protection-Great. The offensive line did a fantastic job of protection Proctor.
Underneath passing game-Excellent. Proctor did a nice job of picking up his receivers and connecting on the short routes.
Intermediate passing game-Excellent-Proctor hit the slant in between the BC zone all day. He looked great and the receivers caught the ball well.
Vertical passing game-Again, fantastic. The TD to Grisham and the post corner to Taylor were great plays.
Screens-The swing pass to Spiller that turned into an 82-yard touchdown was fantastic.
Drops-The Tigers limited their drops. Grisham had one that I remember.
Yards after catch-Again fantastic especially Spiller’s long one.
QB throws on time-I thought Proctor threw it on time and also held onto the ball when he had to wait a little longer for receivers to get open.
Offense-Overall
First down yardage-Good. I thought the Tigers were solid on first down.
Third down conversion-9 of 18 is a very good percentage on the road.
Big Plays-The Tigers had some big plays on offense from Spiller, Taylor, Grisham, Stuckey, and Proctor.
Trick plays-Not really a factor.
Defense-Overall
Tackling-Poor. Whitworth broke too many tackles. This was a disappointing part of the defense.
First down yardage-Average.
Third down conversion-This was not a big part of the picture from Saturday.
Limit of Big Plays-The defense did a nice job of limiting the Eagles big plays.
Defense-Running game
Interior running game-Average. As the game wore on the Eagles were able to take advantage of the poor tackling.
Perimeter running game-Clemson did a nice job here.
Option game-N/A
Draws-Clemson did Ok here. They limited the big plays here.
Short yardage running game-BC converted most short yardages.
Yards after contact-Poor. Again, I saw way too many missed tackles.
Defense-Passing Game
Pressure-Non-existent. The Tigers had zero pressure in the first half. This was a big disappointment.
Underneath passing game coverage-Poor. Ryan hit underneath guys all night.
Intermediate passing game coverage-OK. The Tigers limited BC here for the most part.
Vertical passing game coverage-Good. BC did not hit a long one.
Screens-Good pursuit.
Passes broken up-The Tigers only batted down a couple of balls.
Open field tackling-Open field was OK but interior was poor.
Special Teams
Kickoff returns-Blocking, returners-Average. Spiller needs to hit the hole harder.
Kick off coverage-Poor. Why continue to kick to Smith? Poor, Poor, Poor.
Punt return/block-Blocking, returners-Poor. Ford needs to catch the short ones to limit the roll.
Punt coverage-Snap, protection, punt, coverage-outstanding. Cole Chason punted the ball very well (40.2 YPP).
Field Goals/extra points-snap, hold, protection, kick-Obviously poor.
Overall Team
Energy, Enthusiasm, Leadership-I thought the team came out flat but energized itself.
Coaching
Emotionally prepared-Flat.
Game plan-Offensive game plan was aggressive. The Tigers passed the ball very well. Defensively I knew they would not be too aggressive.
Adjustments-OK. Neither defense strayed from their zone package.
Personnel-Davis should have been in the game on 1st and goal at the three in overtime.
Time outs-Not really a factor.
