Friday Mail Bag

On Fridays we publish your e-mails and answer your questions. To submit a question or comments please e-mail me at mickeyplyler@hotmail.com.

Mickey,
Love your blog...I read a statement last year by Koening where he said he would not run down the "Hill” before a game until he had earned the right. I thought that spoke volumes about his character. Did he ever run down the "Hill" last year? If not, will he do it the first game this year? After the season the defense had where they were ranked in the top 25 in four major categories, I would say he deserves it.

Thanks...
Darren

Darren,
Thanks. As far as I know, he did not run down the hill. Usually the coaches that are in the box do not run down the hill. I am not sure which coaches will be in the box this season.

Mickey,

Here’s the 1 million dollar question: Is Will Korn going to start in 2007? Yes or no. If so, when was the last time this has happened at Clemson?

WALLACE

Wallace,
Clemson has played freshmen quarterbacks in the past but the last few have been red-shirt freshmen. Rodney Williams, Willie Simmons and Charlie Whitehurst all played a lot as freshmen after red-shirting. It is extremely difficult to come in as a true freshman at this position.

Mickey,
I partially agree with Austin about the problems with fan day. I don't agree that there should be a separate day for IPTAY members. But I did see some very uncharacteristic behavior by many of Clemson's adult and youth fans.
The problem is that no one respects the lines as set up before the players. My wife and I are teaching our 11 year old son the importance of being polite and waiting his turn. Unfortunately, that is a tough lesson when he can look across the table and see ADULTS and youth cutting the line by going from table to table behind the players. This practice needs to be stopped. It is not fair to the players who end up being barraged from all sides. It is not fair to the folks who have waited patiently in line in front of the tables. And it is a very bad example for the majority of the Clemson faithful who have come out to support their team.
The biggest disappointment with many of the folks that were cutting line behind the tables was that they said absolutely nothing to the players. They just plopped down a program and picked it up and moved on once that photo was signed.
We really need to fix this problem as it continues to worsen each year. My family will always still be in the "slow" line with the 90% who are doing it correctly. But I'm sure many parents like me would be willing to help cordon off the "back entrance" to the players to prevent this mayhem by the other 10% (unfortunately growing) of parents and children that act more like UGA fans.

Jerry Class of '82.

Jerry,
I think the success brings some negatives. I will forward your e-mail to the athletic department. Thanks for the input.

Mickey,
