Mick,
Any idea when CU season tickets will arrive to IPTAY members?
Bill
Bill,
I am not sure but I would expect them in the next two weeks. I just found out this week that Clemson ticket manager Bobby Skelton is leaving the ticket office to take a job with the Pickens County School District. Bobby is a good friend of mine and I know the ticket office will miss him. The athletic department has already received inquires from some qualified applicants with Clemson ties for the position.
Hey Mickey,
I really enjoy your blogs. I have a question about High School Football. Originally being from Summerville, I seem to remember we had a 47 game winning streak with a QB named Perry Cuda. I believe he went to Alabama but never panned out. How did he and Willy compare? Also I understand that you went to Irmo. Was Reid Charpia ever a Coach there? Charpia was a Summerville Grad who had a lot of success against the Summerville Program. Thanks
Jack Go Tigers
Thanks Jack. I saw Perry Cuda play against Irmo in the 1980 state title game. I think Korn is much better but I was only 12 at the time Cuda played. Korn is the most complete quarterback prospect to ever come out of this state. You will love watching him develop. I think coach Charpia was at Irmo a short time. I remember him most from the days at Midland Valley where his son Rusty was a two-sport star.

Mickey,
Do you think that Korn will take it a little easy this season, maybe not see as much time on the field so as not to risk injury? I would really hate to see one of our highest prospects and most touted players end his career before it really begins.
Thanks
Jeffry
Jeffry,
I don’t believe Korn knows how do to anything without his full attention. He plays as hard as anyone I have ever seen. Korn is too emotionally charged to take it easy. Now, I could see a scenario where Byrnes blows teams out so much in the first half that he does not see the filed in the second half of a game.
Mickey,
I have been away from Clemson area the last several weeks and I am trying to catch up. Anything happening on Jack getting new contract/extension ???
Thanks
David
David,
Coach Leggett and Coach Adair have not signed new contracts. I know both love it at Clemson and the athletic department has that as leverage but I would suggest getting these two inked for long-term contracts soon.
Mick,
I heard your comment about Ole Miss firing Cutcliffe and until recently, I agreed with you. However, Walt Deptula and you have convinced me that Ole Miss did the right thing.
There was 1 count them 1 Ole Miss player that Cutcliffe recruited in all of Walt's player listings. Even there, P-willie was a sleeper from a lower division high school in Tennessee and he didn't have D-1 offers until late and kept his commitment.
The SEC position rankings on your blog tell the story. Bottom of the SEC in 6 of 8 categories and the quarterback rating is due to Orgeron bringing in Schaeffer. Cutcliffe did leave two good linebackers - P-Willie and Gary Pack.
QB 3
RB 11
WR 11
OL 12
DL 10
LB 3
DB 10
ST 11
Many of the comments that you made about Tommy West at Clemson apply to Cutcliffe at Ole Miss. His initial staff included Mike MacIntyre, Ron Middleton, and Marion Hobby, who were all good recruiters. When MacIntyre and Middleton left, their replacements were not good recruiters and, as the cited rankings point out, the talent level was in the tank.
Cutcliffe was offered the opportunity to fix his staff and refused.
Jim
Jim,
Orgeron has definitely upgraded the talent level. I was speaking more to how a coach can get canned after only one bad season. Congrats on Schaffer getting eligible. I think he might be worth three or more wins by himself.
Mickey,
I agree with tiger38 that Georgia, Auburn and LSU have better coaching than
South Carolina. When Steve was at Florida it wasn't the coaching, it was the athletes that came there. What kid in America wouldn't play in the state of Florida? You have beaches and therefore you have girls. Steve went to the Redskins did not do anything. He couldn’t hang with the big boys. Now he's at South Carolina the home of the Gamecocks, what a laugh. He will not do anything there either, just like with the skins. Speaking of skins once again, his coaching didn't do anything for them. Fired quit gave up which ever, he's not there. X&O's great athletes make up the majority of a great team, which is something South Carolina will never have. And by the way Gamecock Will your little
Gamecocks will never have a 10-win season... Gamecock Will join the tigers before it's to late. Tigers 13-1 in 2006 Mick, a big fan here, keep up the good work.
Tigerjames
Tigerjames,
I rated the entire staffs. I think Spurrier as a head coach, Spurrier as the offensive coordinator and Tyrone Nix as the defensive coordinator is the second best staff behind Auburn in the SEC. You are correct about talent. Now the question is whether Spurrier can get the talent to come to Columbia.
