Polar Opposite Tuesday

Sunday was an emotional roller coaster for Clemson fans. Early in the afternoon the Tiger faithful witnessed Clemson's thrilling double overtime win over Maryland in Littlejohn Coliseum. Later that afternoon they were forced to watch the Clemson baseball team blow a two out, two run lead in the ninth and lose to arch rival South Carolina 5-3.

Tuesday was more of the same.

View Full Profile 's basketball squad took another exciting ACC win and improved his team's record to 19-10 overall and 10-7 in the conference.

These 10 wins are double the conference wins the Tigers compiled last season. Clemson is currently tied for fifth place in the conference and has a showdown for the fifth seed in the final ACC standings this Saturday afternoon against Pittsburgh.

Like most Clemson wins this season Tuesday’s was not easy. Miami did a terrific job of the dribble, drive penetration and exploiting Clemson's defense early with easy baskets in the paint. Miami is known as a zone defensive team but ironically it was Clemson that switched to some zone, which helped slow down the Hurricanes' inside game.

Clemson now has 10 ACC wins, which is something that has only happened three other times in school history.

Tigers Routed

Baseball was a completely different story. Western Carolina scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning, seven in the bottom of the forth and four more in the bottom of the fifth to take an 18-4 lead. The Tigers rallied for six runs in the ninth but came up eight runs short in an 18-10 route Tuesday afternoon in Cullowhee, NC.

The Catamounts pounded out 16 hits and took advantage of three Clemson errors on their way to the blowout. Clemson's three errors came in one inning. Western scored 16 earned runs against 10 Clemson pitchers.

The loss dropped Clemson to 6-5 on the season and at this point confidence might become an issue. The Tigers have dropped two pretty eventful games in a matter of 48 hours and now are faced with major question marks.

John McGibbon has struggled at the plate, and Jay Cox took his place but caused two errors in one inning at first. The Tigers have major issues with a pitching staff that has a 4.78 ERA and has allowed 107 hits in 98 innings. Defensively Clemson has 13 errors in the last four games. At this point not a whole lot is going well as the Tigers head into the opening weekend of ACC play.

Who would have thought that the last 24 hours it would be Brad Brownell and his basketball team that has Clemson fans excited while Jack LeggettJack Leggett
