Overview: Valuable contributor to the Tiger program in each of his three seasons at Clemson...has appeared in 96 games during that time...has started 62 games the past two seasons for the Tigers...has shown steady improvement in several areas from his freshman year heading into his senior season...along with roomate and classmate Andre Young, will be expected to provide senior leadership for a young Tiger team in 2011-12...has scored 640 points in three years, an average of 6.7 points per game...has 192 assists and 107 steals heading into his final season...improved his assist-to-turnover ratio and three-point accuracy as a junior...a veteran of 2,156 minutes at the collegiate level...when he was 12 years old he formed a nonprofit called Tanner's Totes, which delivers tote bags full of items designed to help preteens and teenagers cope with long term care in hospitals across the country...first came up with the idea while writing a school paper in the fourth grade...his father was diagnosed with cancer when Tanner was a young child...his dad is cancer-free but suffers from what is known as Graft vs. Host disease...as a result of his charitable efforts, he and his family received a home makeover by celebrity designer Vern Yip...the makeover was shown by HGTV on the show "Deserving Design"...his story was well-documented in his first year with the Clemson program, as he received publicity from an ESPN.com article written by Dana O'Neil in February of 2009...his organization received over $20,000 in donations within one year after the article was published...presented with a special Coaches vs. Cancer Award at the team's season-ending banquet in 2009...three-time member of the All-ACC Academic Team, he has a chance to join Shawan Robinson as the only four-time winner in Clemson history this season...earned team's Academic Excellence Award and Mr. Effort Award as a sophomore...2011 Tiger Pride Award winner...earned the 2011 C.J. Spiller Award, given by the student body to a student-athlete in appreciation of their dedication through athletic endeavors, commitment to academics, and exceptional representation of Clemson University to the community, state and country.
In 2010-11: Named to All-ACC Academic Team for the third straight season, one of eight players in Clemson history to be named three times...started 30 of 32 games, he missed two mid-season due to a knee injury suffered in the Jan. 18 game at North Carolina...third on the team in playing time, averaging 29.3 minutes per game...averaged 7.8 points per game, sixth-best on the team...third on the team with 89 assists, he also had a 1.48 assist-to-turnover ratio...third on the team in three-pointers, he made 31-93 for a .333 figure...one of six players on the team over 70 percent from the free throw line, he shot 72.8 percent for the season...added 3.5 rebounds per game and was third on the squad with 41 steals as well...led team in charges taken with 15, he was especially proficient in that area during the first half of the season...scored double figures in 12 games...led or tied for team lead in assists in nine games...shot better from the field (.440) and thre-point range (.389) during ACC play...played well at home, averaging 8.6 points per game in 17 contests.
Best Games of 2010-11: Matched career-high in scoring with 17 against Long Beach State in the Paradise Jam...ironically, his previous high was also 17 the year before against the 49ers...made 4-7 shots, including 2-3 from three, and all seven of his free throws that game...added six reobunds and four assists in his best all-around game of the season...posted ACC-high 16 points against his hometown team, Georgia Tech, at Littlejohn Coliseum on Jan. 12...hit 5-8 field goals, including 3-3 from three-point distance, and 3-4 from the free throw line...made 5-9 shots, including 4-7 three-pointers, and scored 14 points against No. 1 seed North Carolina in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament...posted 12 points and seven rebounds in season opener with Western Carolina...posted 10 points and eight rebounds in Paradise Jam overtime victory over Seton Hall...made 7-8 free throws in that win...made 4-8 field goals, 2-5 threes, and 3-4 free throws for 13-point total in road game at Florida State...scored 11 points and five rebounds versus Savannah State...scored 11 points in important road win at College of Charleston, which included 3-5 shooting from long distance...posted 11 points and four rebounds in home win over Boston College...followed that performance with 11 points and seven rebounds in close home loss to North Carolina...tallied eight assists, with zero turnovers, in 34 minutes in the road win over Miami (FL)...posted nine points and seven assists against Wake Forest...scored 10 against UAB in the First Four round of the NCAA Tournament in Dayton, OH.
In 2009-10: Named to All-ACC Academic Team for the second straight season...started all 32 games at guard for the Tigers and averaged 8.7 points per game, fourth-best on the team...a willing rebounder, he was third on the squad with 4.2 caroms per contest...averaged 24.9 minutes per game...improved his free throw shooting from 66.7 percent as a freshman to 74 percent as a sophomore...ranked second on the team, behind only first-team All-ACC forward Trevor Booker, in free throw attempts (100)...doubled his assist total from his freshman season, he was fourth on the team with 69 as a sophomore...defensively, contributed 37 steals, fifth-best on the team, and 13 blocked shots...reached double figures in the scoring column 13 times...posted two double-doubles on the season, both in non-conference action...led or tied for the team lead in assists in seven games...took nine charges, third-best total on the team...his numbers slightly improved on the road, as he averaged 9.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game in 11 contests.
Best Games of 2009-10: Posted first career double-double in December win over rival South Carolina with 14 points and 10 rebounds...hit 5-of-8 shots, including 2-of-4 from three-point range versus the Gamecocks...also had 14 points and 10 rebounds at East Carolina, in addition to career-high six assists...scored career-best 17 points in 76 Classic win over Long Beach State...made 7-of-11 field goals against the 49ers...added six rebounds in that game...posted 14 against Presbyterian College in the season opener, while adding six boards...scored 14 points, half of which came from the charity stripe, against Texas A&M...scored 13 points in non-conference game versus Western Carolina...hit 5-of-9 field goals and totaled 12 points in ACC win over Boston College...followed with solid 14-point, six-rebound, five-steal performance in a rout of a then-ranked North Carolina team...hit 7-of-8 free throws, several in the final minutes, and tallied 11 points, six rebounds and four assists at NC State...hit 3-of-5 from long distance and finished with 10 points and six rebounds at Georgia Tech in front of hometown family and friends...scored 11 points at Virginia Tech, including a perfect 6-for-6 performance at the free throw stripe...scored 13 points in road game against Wake Forest...scored nine points in consecutive non-conference road wins over Liberty and UNC Greensboro.
In 2008-09: Named to Academic All-ACC Team...appeared in all 32 games for the Tigers and played an average of 13.2 minutes per contest...averaged 3.6 points and 1.8 rebounds per game...shot 45 percent from the field, including 36 percent on three-point shots...made 8-12 three-point goals in an important eight-game stretch...shot the ball well during December as well, making 60 percent of his field goals between the Liberty game on Dec. 7 and the NC State game on Jan. 10...important contributor defensively, especially in the fullcourt press...tallied 29 steals on the season, which ranked fifth on the team despite less playing time...posted a pair of double figure scoring games, including the first game of the season...had seven games with at least two or more steals...played double figure minutes in all but four games.
Best Games of 2008-09: Recorded season-high in first outing in a Tiger uniform versus Hofstra...hit 3-5 shots, including a three-pointer, as well as 4-4 free throws for 11 points...added four rebounds and two assists in the opener...tallied four steals and two blocks in Clemson's win over TCU in Charleston Classic...posted five points and two steals in Wofford win...had four points and three rebounds at Charlotte...scored seven points in back-to-back games against SC State and North Florida...added three steals against the Bulldogs...totaled eight points and two steals in 15 minutes against East Carolina...scored six points in win over Alabama...top game of the season may have come against NC State, he produced seven points, four steals, and three assists...had a fastbreak dunk off a steal in that contest...hit 2-3 three-pointers for six points at North Carolina...posted five points in 15 minutes in win over #3 Duke...scored five points in back-to-back road games against Boston College and Virginia...tallied six points, three rebounds, and two steals in rout of Maryland...scored 10 points in ACC Tournament game against Georgia Tech, he hit 4-6 shots overall and 2-4 from three.
