I’ve always wondered why Jesus doesn’t just attend one of these meetings and set everyone straight.

Vatican Reluctantly Sides With God On Gender Theory
"VATICAN — In a rare instance of its viewpoints aligning with divine truth, the Vatican announced that it had reluctantly sided with God on the subject of gender theory.
Despite its ongoing efforts to blur the lines of objective morality and evolve the Catholic Church into a more progressive entity, the Vatican said it had no choice but to take the same position held by Almighty God and condemn gender theory.
"We don't do this very often," said one Vatican spokesman. "It's always our policy to try to find a workaround to avoid siding with God on these types of things, but we couldn't really stay away from it this time around. You got us on this one, Lord. As much as His Holiness may dislike it, we're going to stand with God on this."
Pope Francis has built a reputation for espousing far more progressive positions on other geopolitical and social topics like climate change and immigration but felt forced to adopt a biblical view. "He spent a lot of time trying to come up with a different solution," the spokesman said. "In the end, he just shook his head and decided we would side with God. It's not our favorite thing to do anymore, but sometimes we have to do it."
Religious experts expressed surprise that an institution made up entirely of men who wear frilly, ornate robes would express opposition to drag queens and men identifying as women.
At publishing time, the Vatican assured fans that its next policy stance would be far more immoral and counter to God's Word."

with the complete Word. I'm not attacking the people but you've read the scripture. Organized religion of the day crucified my Lord.
I have beliefs that many organizations would think I'm a heretic. Maybe the So Baptist of which I've been a member since 1971.

That’s what every fervent religious person says though. I was just debating a Muslim and it’s the exact same conversation.
He was saying the Quran was the only fully preserved word of God and the Bible/ Torah had some errors.
When i asked for evidence he gave me… you guessed it… scripture.
Its the same crap

The gay issue is a discussion that is taking place within the church. Currently, we do not allow gay marriage or gay pastors. Some want to change that. Some want to keep it. After this year, the rules might change. We'll see.
All denominations have problems. We have ours. But having discussions or internal disagreements about gays doesn't mean we don't read the bible.
Methodist Theology is rock solid, IMO. But there are disagreements on cultural issues, same as many other denominations.

in any given denomination and the Catholic church the average membership consist of about 10% of members who are saved.
You hold your peace and other than voting what you think pleases The Lord, stay out of church politics.
I commend your church for promoting homosexual attendance to church. If those folks are saved they certainly need to hear the word preached and if they aren't, they fit right in with the other 90%.
We all sin. All preachers sin, one sin is just as bad and no worse than another. The basic sin(s) are, pride of life, lust of the flesh and lust of the eyes. If anyone claims they don't have issues with at least one of those point out his pride. If he insist he has no sin talk to his wife.

I don't know what % of people are actually saved that sit in the pews each Sunday. I try not to judge others, and try to be their friend if I can. And I am humble before God, and know I'm not personally worthy of anything, and it's only his grace that saves me.
I do stay out of church politics & don't push my views on others within my congregation on things like disaffiliation. To me, the squabbling over gay people just takes away our energy on more meaningful things like helping the poor.
All denominations....all churches...we all have problems. I think there are some denominations that are full of people that strut around like peacocks, that are overly judgmental of others, that point the finger at others too much while ignoring the "rot" within their own heart. And I think many of those people are going to be horribly disappointed in the afterlife.

Why can’t it be ok to be gay now?
I’m curious why there would be other gay animals too if god didn’t want that but i digress

But I don't see obese pastors getting defrocked for being obese.
I think alot of the anti-gay language in the bible was about pedophilia & orgies & sex outside the confines of a marriage. And I think when Jesus came, we wiped the slate clean on stuff like that.

1 Timothy 1:8-11 ESV - Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine, in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted.

Why are you so hung up on the slavery thing?
If there’s one area the Bible gets it right it is on that.
In context that is. Yes I know you can pull one line that disputes that.

The "Hey, some animals engage in same sex mating" argument has always seemed like an odd way to defend homosexuality. Seems like you could use that to defend just about anything - incest, cannibalism, etc. If the animals do it, it must be okay.

Here's what's funny, let's say I was talking to a flat-earther and I said:
"Actually, you know what? The earth is flat, that makes sense. "
Nobody bats an eye. But if it's religion, I'm supposed to take the opinion more seriously even though it's patently ridiculous.
Meanwhile, these same people who are so offended are the same ones going around telling everyone that they are born sick and deserve to be tortured for eternity.
So forgive me, if I do not care if someone is offended on a P&R board when the entire point of it is to discuss with people who may not agree.
So, if you want to keep trying to moderate how I engage here, that is your prerogative, but I do not care. You don't have to read it.

I don't think the Bible addresses same sex mating among animals any more than it tells us why greetings among dogs involve butt sniffing.
Why do animals eat one another? I guess because they can't order pizza or something from Doordash.

Does evolution also explain same-sex mating among animals? Isn't the purpose of evolution to enhance survival and reproduction? Why would an animal "evolve" to engage in a behavior which offers no reproductive benefit?

>Does evolution also explain same-sex mating among animals?
It does indeed. Homosexuals play a beneficial role in society.
>Isn't the purpose of evolution to enhance survival and reproduction?
There is no "purpose" of evolution, it is a mechanism. The way you think of evolution is given to you by religious people who have an interest in not believing it.
>Why would an animal "evolve" to engage in a behavior which offers no reproductive benefit?
Well, for one, there is an advantage here, and two, not every evolved trait has to be beneficial. Again, that is a misunderstanding of evolution. As long as the overall species survives and reproduces, evolution will continue.

"Homosexuals play a beneficial role in society." What? That sounds as ridiculous as saying "Hetrosexuals play a beneficial role in society." Individuals benefit society. What does it matter who they like to get naked with?
Is there any definition of "evolve" that doesn't include words like "grow," "progress," or essentially develop for the better?

Instead of passively insulting me, please educate me on why a person's benefit to society is shaped in any way by who they like to have sex with. What specific benefit has society received from a gay person because they were gay?

The Presbyterian Church split years ago. And LOl, I'm not sure what they're called or which one we are. Goes to show how much I actually care about it. I know there's a PC-USA, not sure about the other (s?)
But when it came to gay marriage and gay pastors, the national organization of our branch left it up to the regions. Which some thought was a total cop-out. Again, not a deal breaker for me.
Things do tend to get out of whack when humans are involved. And money.

But there's a split with PC-USA being the more liberal and PCA being the more conservative. Other than that, I know nothing about them.
All denominations have issues. So, I hope the UMC can get through the next few years, and come to a more stable spot on the issues they are debating.
