Bible-ish Discovery?

Genesis 2:10

"A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters. 11 The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold. 13 The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush. 14 The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Ashur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates."

I've often wondered if two of the first rivers, Pishon and Gihon, were the Blue and White Nile. But the Blue and White are pretty far upstream. This newly discovered river wasn't. It was parallel to the Nile. The Garden may have been an allegory for the Promised Land itself, flanked by those 4 rivers. Lots of potential for interpretive fun!

Everything (should be all caps) in this world was created and designed to give us a frame of reference to the spiritual world. God created it that way.

I was reading the parable of putting new wine in old bottles and sewing new cloth into old garments in Luke chapter 5 just yesterday. While it seems intuitively obvious that neither of those solutions would work but would lead to disastrous consequences, until yesterday I didn't understand their relationship to the spiritual.

The entire chapter is given to showing the miracles Christ performed and the protest against His actions by the pharisees. After filling a net with fish which almost sank two boats, Jesus drafted two fishermen to become Apostles.

Then He healed leprosy. Hint: All suffering leprosy were called 'unclean.'

Then a great faith brought four men to lower a bed through the roof on which a lay a man who was paralyzed. The crowd was so great they could not get close enough to Jesus otherwise than lifting the man up and upon the roof and letting him down through the ceiling of the house. It shows the faith of not only the infirm man but also the 4 who lifted him up and set him before Christ.

Luke 5:

"20 And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.

21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?

22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?

23 Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?

24 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house."

So He healed a man with palsy and the pharisees said 'WAAAAAHHHHH!'

Reckon what's going on here in the R&P section?

Then after a big meal with publican and sinners the pharisees whined about His fellowship with those they considered lesser elements. Maffs is pretty obvious here in relationship to the wine and cloth parable.

"36 And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old.

37 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.

38 But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.

39 No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better."

Do not mix the old Covenant with the New Covenant I am introducing. No wonder they crucified Him.

How does this relate to your discovery? What is the value of water which makes the source of water so precious?

Well, there you go. A US Congressman recently asked an admiral if Guam was in danger of tipping over due to addition of more marines. "We dont anticipate that", was the answer. There was some debate about whether the congressman was joking. But all you need is a some bible and geology to see that maybe he was onto something. You cant be too sure about such things.
