All the streaming services are the same price as cable/satellite now, if not more expensive because you have to subscribe to 9 different things.

I just have a couple Google TV's up at the lake so I can use the YoutubeTV in multiple places. It's still a bargain compared to what it would be to have dedicated cable in two locations, and it's pretty sweet having my cloud DVR available anywhere.

I pause it when there are no Clemson sports - about 3 months a year and save that $210

HBO, Disney+, and Netflix. I much prefer that to spending $40 a month on cable boxes and DVR and poundmeintheass fees. And if you already pay for Prime, you get their streaming stuff for free.

we have Prime anyway, so that's free, and we add YouTubeTV in fall for football, so for half the year we pay nothing. Searching around on Prime and the various free apps like PBS, we can find enough to stay entertained during the summer. And we rent the occasional movie from Prime. That won't fit everyone, but does us.

box costs $50
so I'll definitely save. Plus I already have streaming so I'm paying that in addition to cable. youtube is like 70. cable is around 130. I'll save about 50.
Mainly doing since our daughter is going to college. She can just use youtube tv as well.

You can switch to unlimited devices for $10 a month extra the first year and $20 the following years, if that matters. Otherwise, just three.

For your use and needs, I'd recommend a Synology DS220+, get two harddrives and put them in a RAID 1 (mirror). Your usable space is the size of the harddrive, so I'd probably go buy two 4TB drives.
If you wanted a little more space and expandability, you could do a DS420+ and have up to four harddrives - but if you want a simple backup, then you're good with the DS220+.
I'm now rocking a DS1621xs+ filled with 16TB drives.

I said goodbye to those basterds a few months ago and never plan on going. I dropped my internet bill in half and get more bandwidth. And oddly, the bill doesn't go up by a $1 or $2 every month.

Depends on what you're looking for. I usually switch it up and keep about 3 or 4 services at a time. I pay $50 - $60 per month. It's tough if you are into sports, because you have to purchase a "cable" like provider for ESPN. The only sport I really watch is Rugby, and Peacock has a great lineup for that.
