This is always the first one I think of but I think its probably due to movies vs knowing if its truly a Nam song.

I see no point in waxing nostalgic about the music of people that spit on soldiers, rampant drugs, godlessness and disease and divorce they called free love.

A few idiots did, most Americans did not. Most did not. Songs from the VN are not just protest songs, but even some of those are good. Some of the best tunes ever made were from that era. Nothing lately is near as good.

Of the 100 songs in your OP, I wonder if there is one of them with any semblance of virtue at all. You can't say its just music or rock and roll because the artists and their audience didn't see it that way. It was the soundtrack for a culture of hate, disease, broken homes, disrespect and godlessness.
These same maggot infested haters took every political and social office for decades to come. How's that worked out for us?
Enjoy your music and to each his own.

WOW !!
Thanks for expanding your thinking. I think we could become friends. I disagree, but a fun debate.
I admit to being a shallow person often entertained and inspired by music. Actuality I did not play that utube as I am kinda ####,as to sound and the bit rate there is poor. Instead have been playing Time-Life Woodstock recordings on this beautiful day in South Carolina. (Glad to send lossless tunes to any who tmail me). I used to share tunes with some audiophiles here like Tbalm on the cloud before my home burned. I will soon get that cloud back up.
Virtue in music or any art is in the eye of the beholder and almost always missing. Art reflects and does that for whatever the market will pay $$ for. Think yin/yang.
"It was the soundtrack for a culture of hate, disease, broken homes, disrespect and godlessness.".
I disagree 100%. That generation was the last to mostly come from solid homes of the WW11 folks. Most came from solid homes. The media then portrayed the "few", and now the internet and you claim we were all ~~? 99% of the kids then were more American than now. The radicals got on TV, the rest of us were about other things.
The tunes of the 60's were very good, not the studio crap you hear now.

LOL, there were some spit on, probably in places like New York but the war wasn't lost by our very brave soldiers but in fact by bureaucrats running the politicians. We could have won it if our hands weren't tied.I can tell that you are a true patriot LOL.

I agree mostly, but The Rising was fantastic. Before that, Darkness On The Edge of Town and Born To Run were his best.

Creedence, in that order.
Windows down because he'd forget his work truck had A/C the way I forget mine has bluetooth ... and either
"Oh Lawd...I'm stuck in Lodi again ..."
or
"I'm walking back to Georgia, And I hope she takes me back ..."
on those Delco door speakers.
He got drafted in '68 and wondered why as he had a pair of degrees, was married with a young baby, and owned a pretty substantial oil and gas concern.
He could've pulled strings but he didn't. He said he trusted the Lord and rendered unto Caeser, and wound up at Ft. Hood after basic.
Momma'd come down from time to time and they'd take the younger guys out to dinner or maybe rent some hotel rooms for everyone over in Killeen and they'd hang around the pool, have some fun during leave weekends.
He said a lot of the boys were from way back east and were mostly lonely and scared s**tless, so he and Momma would try to look out for them.
They wanted him to become an officer and work in intelligence. He said he just wanted to serve his hitch and get on with his business. So he stayed a private and walked around with one of those radios strapped to his back.
He said that radio may as well have been a neon "SHOOT ME" sign.
So when the Army alerted his battalion they were about to ship out, he figured he'd be dead in a few months.
But he never went. His travel orders never came through. He believed his top kick found a way to keep him stateside.
Turns out, his battalion got there a couple of weeks before that Tet offensive and was cut up pretty bad, green as they all were.
I guess today they'd say his white privilege was working overtime or something, but I'm just glad he didn't go, because I might not be here.

by an Asian or Filipino band with a full moon rising from the sea behind the band- song still gives me chills. Your dad could have been a lot like me- in the months before I was sent over I was introduced to the daughter of a Lt Colonel at Ft Jackson. She sort of liked me but the thought of her dad pulling strings never crossed my mind- I am sure it didn’t for your dad either.

and can't really connect to it on a personal, emotional or nostalgic level. I still really enjoy the sound of this era. Much more than 80s or 90s music or more modern stuff.
It just feels like good nostalgia, even if it was well before my time.

An old friend of mine wrote a book called Above All about his time later in the war as an Army helicopter pilot - Red Platoon. He was there early in the war, rotated out, and actually fought his way back over in aviation as a means to settle some scores.
This was the playlist I put together for him which kind of chronicles the storyline, much of which was on the jukebox at their base club:
Light My Fire - The Doors I Just Want to Celebrate - The Rare Earth Break It to Me Gently - Brenda Lee Get Off My Cloud - Rolling Stones Wooly Bully - Sam the Sham & The Pharaohs What'd I Say (1&2) - Ray Charles The Happiest Girl in the Whole USA - Donna Fargo The House of the Rising Sun - The Ventures (from Walk Don't Run II) Mean Woman Blues - Roy Orbison Sally Go Round the Roses - The Jaynetts I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing - The New Seekers (fun story behind that pick) The Wind Cries Mary - Jimi Hendrix School's Out - Alice Cooper Fire and Rain - James Taylor Nickel Song - Melanie
Go America.

This one was written right around the end of the Vietnam War I believe. It doesn’t seem to specifically be about Vietnam given the Pancho Villa reference. But man what a kick butt war tune it was/is. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WHE1dM4hYCw
