If the roundtable of SMU billionaires decides to go all-in for the Ponies, they could buy a team that would turn the tide on the horrible changes to the sport. I am certain they could outbid Georgia, Ohio State, Florida State, Ole Miss or any other Mercenary University. If SMU were to string together a couple of store bought National Championships, I think all the SEC/Big Ten shills would start shedding crocodiles tears about the awful plight of college football and a need for an organization to restore competitive and academic fairness.
I have no desire for Clemson to play in this sewer, but I hope SMU puts a player payroll together that would make the Cowboys blush and pillages the sport. Pony Up!!

Didn't they get something like a NCAA death sentence years ago?

My boss, who is an SMU alumnus, both undergrad and law school, had a brief conversation with me about this last fall.
His comment was, “Now that buying players is legal, we might be good again”.
He’s a big dog, but he has friends that are leviathan dogs. If Highland Park decides to buy themselves a championship, I wouldn’t bet against them.

Half the BOT consists of Methodist pastors. It’s not going to happen.

I disagree. Kids are still going to want to go somewhere with some history, exposure, and an opportunity to win a title. That's not SMU

SMU is a storied program, but for all of the wrong reasons. They literally bought championships and got caught. They received the death penalty from the NCAA back whenever the NCAA had a pair. They've somewhat recovered, but it's been a painful process for them.

Every time that I hear SMU I think of Don Meredith. One of the most entertaining play by play guys ever. Remember him from early tv with Howard Cosell? What a pair.

I always get a kick out of the player who accepted a Pontiac TransAm (I think) from Texas A&M and then changed his commitment to SMU. I don't think TAM was real happy about it, but who were they going to tell ........ the NCAA?

Before SMU wins any championships, they need to redesign that logo and those uniforms. I know it’s not important but the look is a bit, outdated. Am I right?

If you are talking about Texas folks, it is absurd to think that SMU supporters have more cash than the supporters at Texas and A&M. There are schools all across the nation that have supporters with cash and no school will corner the market.
