Is this true?

President Biden asserted on Wednesday that inflation was surging when he took office in January 2021, despite federal data showing the opposite.
Biden's comments came shortly after the latest consumer price index (CPI) reading was released, showing annual inflation accelerated faster than expected for a third straight month in March. In response to a question about inflation remaining high, he noted that the rate of price increases has come down over the past two years and suggested he inherited the economic issues.
"Look, we have dramatically reduced inflation from 9% down to close to 3%. We’re in a situation where we’re better situated than we were when we took office where we — inflation was skyrocketing," Biden told reporters during a press conference Wednesday.

Does it really matter if it's true if the media will breathlessly repeat it over and over as a fact for the next six months? I mean his voters think men can give birth and that obesity is a healthy life choice. You really think they understand something like inflation?

Lulz. As a reminder for the slow ones in the back, we're talking about
May 9, 2024, 2:32 PM
|

Daniel Turner's analysis of the WP article. A program being slowed by bureacracy and red tape is nowhere remotely the same thing as "this program is now complete, and it only delivered 7 charging stations instead of 10,000+".
Does this sound like a stupid analysis yet?
Here, try this: a Javelin missile costs $176,000 when purchased in bulk. Pentagon orders 100 of them. Lockheed Martin delivers 4 of them before a supply chain issue causes a production delay. Would you then claim that the order was a failure and that Javelin missiles cost $4.5M apiece now? Because that's what Daniel Turner is saying, and you're apparently dumb enough to buy it (you're not, you're just being obtuse and argumentative...Crass, on the other hand, probably believes it).

OK, thanks for pointing out that you were referring to the link on X, as opposed 5o McMurphy’s link.
I shudda figured that you’d focus on the easy one (Daniel Turner’s click bait) instead of risking it by responding to the FixNews / Business article.
Big win for ya. Buy yourself a trophy.

What a retort.
Take a known fact exposing your guy’s terrible leadership, and then defend it by citing a prediction that your opponent’s guy would have done the same thing.
Yet, your opponent has an actual track record of keeping inflation low.
How convincing of you.

I do know both the Biden and Trump admins foolishly contributed to this inflation problem for cheap political points during COVID. I know that corporations used inflation as an excuse to further raise prices and reap profits.
I know that Biden and Trump proposing more tariffs will not help the problem. So here we are.

There were at least 4 major economic factors that created world wide inflation
3
May 9, 2024, 10:42 AM
|
|
1) COVID’s immediate impact on demand and then significant disruption to multiple global supply chains that last at least two years. 2) Geopolitical events primarily Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and OPEC manipulation of oil supply. 3) US spending and monetary policies created extra demand and inflationary conditions. Biden’s various spending initiatives dumped a couple of extra trillion dollars into the economy. 4) The Federal Reserve was slow to react (i.e. raise rates) to initial inflation data by around 6 months.
Biden owns the spending policy but the other factors were not directly in his control. It is interesting to note that the US economy is in better shape than most other major economies including China.

Good summary overall.
As for item (2), OBiden Handlers Admin (OBHA) bears a big share of the blame. Foreign policy was weak and unprepared for how to juggle domestic agenda vs foreign aggressions.
(Smart foreign policy has advance planning for potential international aggression. By the time that Biden became the ceremonial leader for the Uniparty’s handlers, it was well known that Russia was a threat to engage in military aggressions. Also, smart foreign policy requires US intelligence services to monitor and provide timely updates to the president’s Uniparty handlers.)
OBHA failed to prepare itself to take the political risk of alienating their domestic ‘Green’ constituency by signaling America’s willingness of using our bountiful natural gas supplies as an economic weapon against Russia in the event of Russian aggression.
In other words, OBHA chose short term political exigencies (keeping their ‘Green’ constituency appeased) and hoped that slower gestating (but larger) political consequences of inflation (not just energy, but chemical feedstock) due to tight supply of nat gas would be a net electoral benefit for the 2022 midterms. It was not a good political option in H1-2022 to simply let Russia go unpunished; thus, the sanctions regarding the purchases of Russian natural gas were imposed. This wrecked Germany’s economy. Prices of many things shot upward as a consequence of shortages of goods … with restrictions on nat gas supply contributing to the shortages of materials to make goods. Prices of goods also rose because the cost of transporting those goods rose (higher fuel prices … Russian oil was also sanctioned, which impacted global fuel costs).
In summary, OBHA swapped short term domestic priorities for long term foreign policy failure. Inflation was exacerbated by this decision.
OBHA owns this.

Maybe it’s #4. Which is #3, except that a voice-over recites the message for him.
The teleprompter shows a clip of a little girl wandering back and forth to keep Joe from going comatose.
