Gameday just had an interesting 5-10 minute discussion about fixing the factors that played into the Orange bowl debacle and the bowl season in general.
A few points they made that if implemented may start fixing the issue were:
-Move the “free agency” (Transfer Portal) opening to past the post-season -Restructure NIL deals to incentivize players having to play the whole season (like game checks in the NFL) -Reduce the number of bowl games in general (no more 6-6 teams playing) -Herby went so far as to say ditch all the bowl games except for the 12 team playoff (similar to NCAA Basketball Tourney)
anyways, thought the discussion was interesting. so sad to see where CFB is now. what say you to this, TigerNet?
really only 1 way to save the bowl system which is now tied to opt outs, scholarships must be contract based, they must be worded to even include transfering, for example no school could technically keep you from transfering but if you were to do so the contract must be written that you get no benefits aka money if you do so before your contract is up.
I would go even further and make contracts heavily dependent on playing the last 4 games of the season, that would also eliminate any pretend sick or sore ankle work arounds as excuses to not play. But if none of these things happen, the bowl system should be eliminated and playoff only.
