I can’t believe they are actually doing it. Just saw it with my own eyes for the first time

Exposure and more applicants don’t equal change. If you want to grow you have to expect campus to change. Otherwise Clemson is dying or not moving forward. This change is good.

This right here. Unfortunately you have to get rid of some things to move forward. As long as it helps the university progress I don't have a problem with it.

Clemson is one of the largest land owners in the state of SC
They have TONS of Green Space
If you expect them to keep moving forward, building infrastructure and growing is part of it. There will be a time when growth needs to stop.
Right now, in this world of higher education….IT IS DEFINITELY NOT NOW

To my knowledge, I have been to Kite Hill twice in my lifetime. Once to take my daughter (a current junior) to her car, and the other looking for a portajohn for my wife. Bothe in the last 2-3 years. Prior to that, if you had asked me what/where Kite Hill was, I couldn’t have told you.
I am still trying to wrap my head around the loss of the Student Union and Clemson House. But I guess progress is progress. Without it we wouldn’t have many of the things we all take for granted on campus today. Softball/lacrosse buildings, business school, Walker Course, upgraded golf facility, softball/lacrosse venues…

I surveyed the field behind Lowry for my surveying class in the early 80s. Never knew what kite hill was until my daughter went to Clemson and had to park her car there.

I would’ve preferred we stay around 18,000 enrollment, rather than this push for 30,000+. That would’ve improved our applicant pool as we continue to get more applications, allowing us to become more selective and increasing our academic profile.
Instead, we have gotten larger, lost some of what makes us special, and seen our rankings slip some. I hope the powers that be know they have done irreparable damage.

Now an upperclassman has to be somebody to live on camps. Sad. What a great experience it was to be where the action was.
Maybe they should build a dorm on Kite Hill instead of commuter parking, but what do I know?

It makes no sense. Students should live on campus in Clemson. Not randomly commute in from Seneca, Central and beyond.

Say it louder for the people in the back. The Clemson that I attended is gone. Not all change is good. To think that Clemson now has traffic congestion is just pitiful.

I was a student a Clemson from 1982-87. Prior to that I started coming to all home football games every year from elementary school on. I still come to many home games and some games for other sports also. I have never been to kite hill nor do I remember it when I was a student at Clemson. I have seen it sometimes since just passing by leaving Clemson. I DO recall eating many meals at Clemson house though!

there has to be a point where you preserve the campus before it turns into some unrecognizable commercialized form of vandalism. When you visit Duke or Wake or some of the older more established universities in our conference there is a sense of history and richness that comes with it. Clemson still has that but at some point ya gotta say.. we're big enough.. we can't fit everyone.. and you preserve as much of the stuff from 1889 as you can. Bc that stuff is what is valuable. Not 2020 style condo's and facade level architecture.

Wake???? That campus is the newest campus in the power five except for maybe UCF. Wake was relocated in the 1950s after moving from the town of wake forest.

I grew up in Clemson and literally flew kites on that hill with my dad who has since passed away. Sorry, but I don’t think this is “progress”. Clemson University has plenty of space and $. They could’ve left this landmark.
One day “progress” will turn Clemson into USuCk.

If that's the hill that was just above the pit, I agree. They used to teach hang gliding off of that hill. But everything changes... if you're not changing then your going backwards. But I do hate it...

You don't have to change just for the sake of change. Several people have said that, and it's kind of foolish.

that when he came to this town after Drad, there was nothing. He brought the mall here. He got the 7-Eleven. He got the Fotomat here. Christ, JC Penney is coming here because of me. He said they could ask anybody, they'll tell you.
I'm not sure who he was talking to, but I can't help but wonder if the demolition of Kite Hill doesn't have something to do with this.

Business college, although very nice looking, was placed right at roadside, instead of set back on the hill like Clemson House, preserving a nice green area in front, with the building up high.
Kite Hill? I have never heard of it until today. I'm thinking maybe it's where I parked for the Georgia Tech game. if it is, I remember thinking how dumpy that area looked. Of course it was a rainy muddy day.
Must be plenty of other places to fly a kite. Of course, if you complain about this to the administration, they may just tell you to "go fly a kite". I'll have to see apic to even know if I'm thinking of the right place.

Kinda like your input on a location you know. All of our options mean nothing. I’m all for more parking and a parking garage to. Bring it on. I’m for growth not staying stagnant.

I do not know what they are putting on Kite Hill but, if it is anything like what is across 93 from the President's house, DON'T!!! Those buildings have about as much quality of appearance as a cracker box.

Thornhill Village was at one time scheduled to be torn down, but was used for isolation housing during the 2020-21 school year. After that it started showing up again in the housing options.
