Best Concert Band

The "best' are those seen from "your times". It is not a real contest that has a correct answer.
I know as to and am a fan of many concerts "back when" as I was paid to be there and keep yall away. I may have seen more bands that most. Some stars are OK and some are a--h--les. Kristofferson was was off the chart fun and came back to my bar after hours to group sing.. I ran the world's last hippie club - 'MUTHERS'. Folks yall never heard of were incredible if you gave them a few minutes on stage.
The $$ yall kids brought to a concert was amazing. At an NBA game most $$ was spent on beer. At a Rock concert it was on memorability. Kids with hundred dollar bills were normal. $$ flooding in was off the chart. Most $$ in a weekend was yall at the ACC Basketball Championships as it accumulated over a weekend of games.
This comes to mind as "Meat" died. I saw him, excellent, one of my top five concerts. His show was more than just great music. The best music might be at home over your headphones. No concert can do that level. Folks come to a concert not for quality music but to be entertained. Meatloaf had few equals, but throwing Mick in there is OK with me.
The best live band I have seen (followed them in the day like a groupie) was THE TAMS.

I gave my old Sony turntable and my collection of vinyl to my daughter. Their generation loves the old vinyl.

I have over a thousand LPs and a couple nice tables. The needle in one costs me over $500. I rebuilt my Rega turntable. I have a $500 machine to wash records, expecting LPs to sound great without a vacuum washer is ~~

I’m referring to the rubbish their generation makes and call music. There is a population within though that appreciates real music and the vinyl piece is a bit like their current fashion “recycled from gen x” though 60’s-wear is lurking back around with the girls wearing bell bottoms.

I saw Don Henley at the amphitheater in Charlotte I was amazed at the sound quality and timing being so like the CDs
Had one band surprise me at a concert Went to see 38 special but the opening band did a shockingly good show and rocked it That would be Huey Lewis and the News Was not really a fan kind of neutral but man the kicked it in that show

That is a good question because it can either be the entirety of the show (visuals and all) or just who sounds closest to the album cuts live.
For me, the best of both is Nine Inch Nails, but I get that that's probably not most people's cup of tea, here, lol.

We all probably have Concerts (Bands) that we remember more than others and very few of us have probably not come close to seeing as many bands as you have but there is NO USE in anyone getting ###bent over it. People need to lighten up and not get H***Bent over this thread and any other on this Board. I read more than I post, I agree with some and don’t at others but I will NEVER take it personally as some do on TNet.
With that being said………GO TIGERS!!!!!!!

I’ve always thought, the Eagles were our “American Beatles”, due to the vocal talents and song writing ability. Haven’t been to a concert in years but plan to see them on 4/25 in Greenville.

Went to a Chicago concert in Tampa stadium n the mid 70’s when they were hot and very popular. The opening act was a group I never heard of named Lynnard Skynnard. They blew Chicago off the stage. Called back for 2 encores. Have never seen that for an opening act before. Incredibly tight sound.

Skynyrd was the king of southern rock for sure. Another Jacksonville area southern rock band and a concert favorite of mine was 38 Special, the early 80's version with Don Barnes, Carlisi, Van Zant and crew - Wild Eyed Southern Boys, Special Forces, Tour De Force era of the band. Didn't much care for the second team poppier version that followed. 38 was TIGHT and I think just as good in concert as on the records. Carlisi was very underrated as a guitar player. Dude could lay down some tight riffs. I must've seen them live a half dozen times because they were so #### good. Barnes and Carlisi were very under rated guitar players. And the twin drummers were just boss!

I have seen hundreds, because just about any concert I have for free due to my Dad being in that indudtry, but probably U2, even though I never listen to them. They sounds better live and jut get the crowd feeling it. The most overrated all time....The Rolling Stones. I can't even believe they are famous. They suck. What a waste of time. It shows the public are suckers for what we tell them.

I went with two of my friends who are women. They loved it! Plus, we were two rows from the stage. Not only was marijuana passed down our row, but I saw some bras and panties fly over my head to the stage.

Best and the worst....
Jan 25, 2022, 7:55 AM

Some of the best live performances I've ever seen include the Eagles (prior to Glenn Frey's death), Alabama, The Commodores, The Doobie Brothers, 38-Special and, believe it or not, The Catalinas.
Some of the absolute worst were James Taylor, Britney Spears, Taylor Swift (took my daughters to see Britney and Swizzle), Van Halen, and Motley Crue (towards the end).

several years back in Greenville at the Bi-Lo Center.
They were actually very good! Sounded as good as their recordings but you knew it was live.
Also, if you haven't seen TSO live during their Christmas shows, you are missing out!
Bon Jovi was pretty good. Enjoyed Styx and REO Speedwagon. Journey, not so much.
The Eagles, however, were the best I have seen live.

Kiss ZZ Top Elton John Lynnard Skynnard Def Leppard Not a country music fan, but I took my wife to see George Strait and he is outstanding. Willie Nelson (great guitar player) And one that very few have heard of, Blackberry Smnoke. (Imagine if the Allman Brothers and Lynnard Skynnard were still in their prime making new music. This is what they may sound like.) All were great shows!

I've see George Strait in concert twice....

His shows aren't too fancy or flashy that's for sure. He just pretty much stands center stage and performs, but to his credit, his live performances sound just like his recordings.
Compared to Garth Brooks who, at one time, had a really good live show. Now, he spends way too much time talking and telling sappy stories as opposed to performing.

George Strait has earned the right to do ### he wants. Many after him mimic him, but he is the original.

Definitely Iron Maiden. I’ve seen them 13 times on 10 different tours and they always sound great and put on an amazing show.

Agree about Prince. Saw him live at the Bi-Lo Center, Morris Day and The Time gave him a run for his money, but Prince was incredible.

But if you want a good concert that goes even beyond the albums, Santana is amazing. For musicianship and the various instruments he plays throughout a show, Lenny Kravitz. Lenny also really knew how to pump up the crowd when I saw him, even got on a remote mic and came out in the crowd to get them singing Let Love Rule with him.

favorite - saw Three Dog Night in Charlotte and they were great, every time I would start to leave , they came back out for another encore. Also the Johnny Winter Band because the girl I was dating was a fan and it was better than expected. Not a band, but I also saw Elvis because of another girl who wanted to go. Doobie Brothers in Clemson for the same reason.

The best live band I have seen (followed them in the day like a groupie) was THE TAMS. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vuD9eJvJzQ

One band I didn't see mentioned here that may be better live than they were recorded were the Black Crows. Absolutely blew me away when I saw them live.

I saw would be Allman Brothers and Widespread Panic. Both bands had outstanding instrumentals and I always enjoyed their songs. I've seen them in North Charleston, Augusta, GA, Charlotte, and Raleigh. I haven't been in awhile but those were always great shows. And the parking lot scene was always great too.

Reminiscing about the great concerts I saw in the 70.s

is great, but now I really enjoy some of the lesser known acts in smaller venues. Just last weekend, I saw Tab Benoit at the Newberry Opera House...put on a great show, on stage for almost 3 hours!
Another great performer I've seen three times there, is Paul Thorn. He puts on a great show, and has some great stories to tell, about being a professional boxer in his 20's, being good enough to have fought Roberto Duran. He said he made enough from the Duran fight to make a down payment on his new double wide!

Not a big county fan but Alabama was good and the Charlie Daniels band were both good but that would have been in the late eighties and early nineties when I was a young whipper snapper and probably not a good judge of a great concert or performance. Journey was surprisingly good and Pink Floyd was great and the Stones was awesome. Sorry to say I have not seen the Eagles in concert but I love most of their music.

Wife and I tried to figure out how many different bands we've seen live and came up with about 250. Some of the best were...
1. Billy Joel and Elton John back in early 2000s or whenever they did that tour together. Was cool to see them play each other's songs.
2. Steely Dan reunion in mid 90s. At the time was just ecstatic to have a chance to see them at all, but seen them several times since.
3. In early 90s I heard on the radio that there was going to be a free show on July 4th in Charleston, SC. Skynyrd was headline act, but there were bands playing all day. One young guy played early in the afternoon, and then was brought on stage for a couple songs while Skynyrd was doing their set. He played circles around the old timers, lol! His name, Derek Trucks. Must have been no more than 13-14 years old.
4. Skynyrd reunion show. Days before HS graduation, and Rossington Collins band opened.
5. Also within a week or so of HS graduation, saw Allman Brothers at Township Auditorium. They were good, but was really impressed with the opening act, Blues Travellers. They weren't popular yet, but man that guy could play some harmonica!
6. .38 Special at House of Blues in Myrtle Beach. For bike week. Band was fantastic and crowd as rowdy as you'd expect. The hangover lasted two days, lol!
7. Ozzy for Ultimate Sin tour, and snagged 2nd row seats. Metallica was supposed to open for them but early in the tour was the fatal bus crash, so they cancelled remaining shows. Wound up seeing a still mostly unknown Queensryche, who blew the doors off what Ozzy offered later that night.

Love their Texas Swing kind of sound. Listen to them every fall at our guys camping trip.
Best Clemson concert I saw, was Anders Osborne opening for Kid Jonny Lang in Tillman Hall. Jonny’s mom was hot!! Ouch.
