To those of you calling for Brad to be fired, and/ or who are minimizing what this team has accomplished, how dare you.
This coach and these kids have represented Clemson to the highest degree… the only appropriate response, right now, is to celebrate them!
Go Tigers!

Message Boards, like the Internet in general, is full of idiots. Pay no mind to idiots on this board. Anyone who has been a fan of Clemson basketball for more than five minutes knows how special this run was and what a good job Coach Brownell is doing. It was awesome, and I know they appreciate your support. As a Tiger fan, I know I do. I salute you, and I wish you a very happy and blessed Resurrection Sunday.

Absolutely, my son wasn't born and my daughter was 2 the last time this happened. A lot of coaches have tried between then and Brownell and couldn't get it done.

this occurs at Clemson. don't you want this to be less rare? you think in year 14 Brad has magically figured out how to coach? this team was awesome. love these guys. Brad's Best Team Ever. but if one is truly a Clemson fan and wants what's best for Clemson, it's fairly reasonable to believe we can do better than Brad. This one year and three game win streak notwithstanding.
the best thing about Bradball are all these self-righteous "Clemson fans" calling out Clemson fans and patting themselves on the back for wanting to stick with a mediocre coach. that attitude is very cootish.

Why are you ignoring the 30 years of mediocrity or worse prior to Brownell?

Because living in the past is no way to create the future that you want. Like a coach mocked by JK for making the Final Four in football six years in a row has said, have a windshield mentality.
Acceptance of mediocrity is what the coots do. We shouldn't.

So now, the not so distant past (1 day) says Clemson is an Elite 8 school. Is that too far in the past?

No. Why would it be? Losing to Morehead State and Oakland wasn't that long ago either.
I understand there are people losing their minds about making the top 8. It says a lot about this team. but one year won't change a lot of people's minds about the mediocrity of Brad. It shouldn't be 40 years between appearances. He should have been fired years ago, but Brad will have more years here. Let's see how he does. Who knows? Maybe a switch was flipped and he really did learn how to coach. Taking three time outs to halftime as we had a 20-2 run done to us suggests otherwise, but we will have the chance to find out.

He also had a sweet sixteen run besides the Elite 8. There are only like 15 coaches who have done that in a span of seven years.
I agree with you he has to keep producing, but you have to give him credit for doing some good things in his last 7 year span at Clemson.

I just want to clarify - “There are only like 15 coaches who have done that in a span of seven years.” I assume you meant 15 that have done it in the last 7 years? Because I’m pretty sure that a lot more than 15 have done that in any seven year period.

Well, I did that it was 22 coaches who have gone to at least two sweet 16s in the last 7 years. It probably is a little lower than that have gone to at least a sweet sixteen and elite 8 in the last 7? Need to research that. Again, I feel like Coach Brownell still has a lot of consistent work to do to fully say he has turned the corner, but this season was on the good side of his up and down career.

Brad has made it to a sweet sixteen and now an elite 8. Let’s see if he can keep the momentum going next year before firing. How silly would it be to fire a coach that just made it to the elite 8 with a program that hasn’t done so in 45 years?

Obviously I want more consistency and I’ve criticized him when I felt there were justified issues… But in light of the way the season ended, and how his players stood behind/supported him, it’s apparent that he’s done a good job developing a healthy, winning culture that matches who we are at Clemson.
More important, we are part of the culture, and the constant negativity (even if it’s on some dumb internet message board) is only going to slow this growing process down.

What a completely illogical argument. You imply Coach Brownell is mediocre, but at the same time you admit his team was awesome this year. That doesn’t gee and haw. Mediocre is mediocre. It isn’t, “Elite,” as in “Elite Eight.” Furthermore, you acknowledge this run was rare, but you want it to be “normal.” Ok, well how many teams make it to the Elite Eight every year? Eight, right? No coach in America does that every year. Shoot hardly any even do it every other year. Additionally, if any new coach at Clemson had made an Elite Eight run, you’d be happy, right? You’d say that the program is doing well, right? If so, why can’t you acknowledge that when Coach Brownell does it? Whether it is year 2, 4, or 14 doesn’t change the fact he just did something that no other coach has done, at Clemson, save one, and that was 44 flipping year ago!
Someone else posted these sentiments in another thread, but they are worth repeating. Let Clemson go ahead and “can” Coach Brownell after what his team just accomplished. Can a man that had the most wins in school history and has taken the school to two Sweet 16s in 6 years. Do it. See what kind of coach you can get. No one worth a dime would touch Clemson with a ten foot pole. You might as well go get the head coach of any random high school in the western Carolinas and tell them to “make us a contender, coach.” Yeah, right. Clemson isn’t some “dream” destination for a basketball coach as it is anyhow. It never has been, and if you go going scorched earth on a coach who has done what Brownell has done at a school like Clemson, say hello to being between 8-24 and 12-20 every year. The doormat of division one power leagues. Now that, sir, would be very “cootish.” 🙄🙄🙄

Consistency is the key. Brad has never had it. Time to go. One run doesn’t change that. He earned 1 more year in my book. Then a reevaluation and see where we are at. Don’t tell me we have a long history of the opposite. That’s beside the point. We never had a history of stringing football national championship runs either. We had 1.

Agree that consistency is key, but I think 1 year, in light of how well we ended the season, is a bit hasty. My sole reason here is that we’ll lose PJ, JG3, and probably Chase… that’s a good amount of talent and experience to replace.
IMO he’s got a good nucleus coming back, but I’d give him 3 minimum to see how he uses this run to build momentum and further improve recruiting.

3? No way in hell. If he doesn’t reach the tournament next year maybe even the next (I say no) that just goes along with his inconsistency. Keep hiring till you find someone who can string appearances together. I’m not asking for final 4 year in and year out.

I’m one of those that thinks Brad should have been gone years ago BUT since he’s still our coach and we had a really great run in the NCAA tourney I think he deserves a few more years to show some consistency and build on what we achieved this year. If that doesn’t happen he should be on the hot seat again.

going with the lie b/c of their pride.
We've consistently been a mid-pack or better ACC team since he's been here and thats pretty much who Clemson should be in basketball. We act like its tourney or bust but did you notice the ACC only had 4 teams get selected out of the 14? UVA got a play in invite but only 4 teams were deemed "good enough" and the one in the final four would not have been selected had they not got hot and won the ACC tournament.
In terms of firing coaches, etc. i've always thought, unless you can go get a Brent Venables type hire (like Dabo got at D. Coordinator) that is just a sure thing.. then don't waste the time and years with musical chairs type coaching searches. If we start regressing to bottom half ACC annually then yes you'll need to start thinking outside the box but if you're in that 4 to 5 team bottle neck of ACC bubble teams then that means you're probably where we are supposed to be. You guys expecting Kentucky or Duke level results every year need to realize you gotta have their recruiting levels. If you tell me you can get a coach that can pull that off here then i'm all ears otherwise I think we're good where we are.
Elite 8 is pretty good i gotta say.

and realize it's many times guys who are bored or venting. The program just did something incredibly special. I wish we had won one more game. I wanted it so bad and I wanted our son to be able to see it along with me. Making it to the Elite 8 though was an awesome accomplishment and can't be minimized. I just wish I could have made it to Clemson last night to welcome them back.
