Going to make two starters. The first is going to be a mini-pizza with homemade sourdough pizza dough that baker friend is bringing, that I’ll bake until puffy and top with pistachio pesto, stracciatella, and thinly sliced mortadella. Second will be a classic steakhouse style beef carpaccio- thinly slicing then pounding beef tenderloin, top with arugula, shavings of parm, pickled shallots, capers, and dressing w olive oil and balsamic reduction. With the appetizers I’m going to serve an apertif native to Burgundy called Kir, a measure of cassis de Dijon (currant liqueur) topped with a sparkling wine.

Then I’m making a scallop dish. Will sear them fast and serve over a corn beurre blanc, a drizzle of basil oil, and garnish with roasted corn, crispy lardons, raw heirloom tomatoes, pickled Fresno chili, and basil, parsley, and scallions. Will pair this dish with a 2020 premier cru Chablis.

Lastly, going to make a bordelaise sauce, have marrow bones from the butcher for this, and will pan sear and butter baste two big prime ribeyes to soak up the sauce. Will make sides of blanched asparagus with lemon mustard vinaigrette and charred scallion whites, and some extra buttery mashed potatoes. Haven’t settled on a red yet, but probably will go with a little more serious and structured Burg from the cote de nuits.

Baker friend is in charge of dessert. Pizza or chicken nugs for the kids.

It's totally subjective but how much black currant liqueur do you add. My friend from France says he goes with 1 teaspoon.

Bon Appetit!

I mean, i stopped reading at pizza.

But, i know it is ironical with above statement, but my kids eat what we are eating. There are very few exceptions. One, oldest does not handle hot spices, so if it is spicey, we allow her something else. Two, middle child does not like certain sauces. We try to give him something similar without the sauce.

But, my kids have never once ordered off a kids menu, from what i can recall. I refuse to pay for an $8 grill cheese or something like that, and they would prefer to have a well prepared meal.

Yeah my kids eat whatever I cook too, but it’s hard enough making a nice meal for 6 adults as a one man kitchen, impossible for 6 adults and 8 kids, and the kids in the group other than mine are all super picky

Took Mom in law here the other night. One of our favorite places. The food is pretty simple and straight forward but really well done, and it has a cool atmosphere. It's in an old home in Myers Park. It has all these little secret passage ways that were part of the old home. A waiter may pop through a bookcase door - you never know.

I had the Radiatori.
