How in the world is Clemson not #1 in baseball?

They swept #12, 19-0 FSU (now #17) over the weekend . . . they beat current 11th ranked Duke 2 out of 3, they beat #18 (19-5) South Carolina in both games, they beat #23 K-State (17-6) in one of one game. That's 8-1 against top 25 teams, 7-1 vs. top 20, plus an overall 22-2 record. That's an 8-1 record over ranked teams, and 22-2 overall.
By contrast, #1 Arkansas has lost 3 games, none to ranked teams, and has played exactly one currently ranked team, a win (impressively) over current #2 Oregon State. While Oregon State, at #2, and 21-2 and has played no ranked teams.
I know it's early and there's more to go on than simply wins over ranked teams, especially with so many conference games left and a usually string of weaker teams front-loading the early schedules of many. But still, at this juncture, with Clemson already 3rd as of last week, and with the events of the weekend, I am not understanding this.
I'm usually not one to jump to bias accusations, as it's often a reflexive, sour-grapes move. But it'd be hard to convince me otherwise from what I see here. Ridiculous.

Early season baseball rankings are heavily influenced

by perceived roster quality. That probably trumps actual W/L record until teams get deeper into conference play.

Very true, but it seems to last longer into the season in baseball

Football teams tend to plummet when they lose and the early season rankings can be very volatile. It seems like baseball rankings are more "sticky" early in the season.

I mean, I certainly don't doubt you are correct, but I can only half agree with the philosophy. So, if in football, Alabama won 35-10 over an FCS team and Vanderbilt won 44-0 over a decent MAC team, they certainly wouldn't rank Vandy over Bama after one week because that one win was more impressive. Even after a couple weeks of that they wouldn't. But at some point they would. It seems like 22 to 24 games into the season when teams have played 6-9 conference games is well enough in to be scrapping the pre-season assumptions. I mean, if it were 6 or 8 games in against cupcakes, sure, but now? Weird.

I'm not suggesting the rankings are going to keep us from going places - it's not about that, at all. So I agree. But as a matter of assessment, it seems off.

14-9 Florida at #6 is all the reason I need to discredit the rankings.
Just win baby!

Let us not forget that #17 Florida State did defeat number #6 Florida head to head.

Florida is a prime example

Why is Florida #6?
-They went to the CWS final last year
-They have a very talented roster including the best player in the country and possible #1 overall pick (Caglianone)
-They have one of the best coaches in college baseball
-They haven't lost a weekend series this year and just won back-to-back series against top 10 opponents in A&M and LSU.
-Many voters don't care about midweek games
I listened to two college baseball podcasts yesterday. Both of them discussed Florida and all of the guys basically had the same opinion. Florida is a very talented team that keeps winning weekend series and they don't think that the midweek game results are relevant except in the possible scenario where Florida finds themselves in the loser's bracket in the regionals or CWS and needs to rely on a 4th or 5th starter. Even if that scenario does arise, they still have a few months to get that sorted out.

A lot of games left to play and ultimately, who cares? The goal is hosting a super regional. That's what really matters at the end of the day. That, and advancing to Omaha.

correct, hosting a Regional winning that and hosting a SR should be the goals

it will improve our chances of getting to Omaha. That said, we have to get better at starting pitching. We have time but those rallies from this past weekend while impressive will not be possible vs the staffs we have to face later in the year.
I guess we deserve #1 as much or more so than about anyone right now but I personally don't think we are the best team in the country. Not right now. Maybe we get there by season's end or maybe we are close enough and get lucky.

Another case of SEC bias imo.

In your heart or hearts, you know the answer. Perception is reality and there is no way an ACC team could be the best in the country with the talent that drips from each SEC roster. Arkansas practically invented baseball .

Arkansas and Oregon State got more votes. As Dabo always says, just keep winning and rankings will take care of themselves.

The Razorbacks are in the SEC which owns and operates all sports media these days, or so it seems. It just means more.
