Clemson owes Brad $6 million

That’s why he’ll still be the coach next year.
Say we lose first round and suck next year; then he’ll get $3 million to go away. Maybe same applies even if he wins a game this year. Winning any more than that seems unlikely the way this team is playing.
This is what I see happening: a disappointing tourney showing, a lousy year next year; and then the final farewell to the one they call brad.

He should be on a year to year contract. He has done nothing to deserve the crazy contract extensions he’s received over the years

How are we this far into replies with no one actually reading the article.
He does have $3 mill per year for 2 years remaining. But he also has buyout provisions. If he is bought out before the end of April it’s $85k per month remaining or roughly $2 million.

If he coaches next year he gets $3 million, there is further erosion in ticket sales and revenue, and they’ll still owe him a $1.5 million buyout before the end of April 2025. So $2 million to rip the band-aid or $4.5 million to let a wound fester. He’s returning, at best, 35% of offensive production next season. He’s only returned less the 50% twice and went 16-15 (9th ACC) in ‘19-‘20 and 13-18 (11th ACC) in ‘12-‘13. Next year will be an unmitigated disaster if he’s back.

Can we settle it in TNet Coins? I'd gladly contribute generously to the cause. I bet we could come up with 2 million TNet coins pretty quickly.

Pretty sure Brad got a one-year extension after the '22 season

when he hired his 2-year contract-guaranteed assistants (a guarantee that expires at the end of this season). It's likely he has 3 years remaining under this structure @ $85,000 per month still through April, or roughly $3 Million in buyout right now.
After April the buyout will grow to $125k per month so pretty much $3 Mil again still if we opt to keep him on and shell out another $3 Mil in salary for the '24-25 season but wait til after that to bail.

I find no evidence of that. They got 2 year deals, which end this season.

5/1/24 then goes up to about $3mil and those are total amounts not per year. You need to read the last paragraph/buyout info in your link.

Couldn't we go to court and promise to pay him $29.99 a week until the 3 mil is paid off?

This is where I just don’t get AD’s. I’m thinking a buyout number is determined based on the likelihood of (A) someone coming in and stealing your coach (B) whether a coach feels he has leverage based on his skill set and production. For the life of me I can’t see how a buyout of 1 million couldn’t have been agreed upon by our AD seeing as how , worst case scenario Brad left for another job, you shouldn’t have much issue finding another coach who could attain similar results as Brad. You’re not exactly replacing Bob Knight or John Wooden.
My guess is if you asked Neff, he’d say”well that number is pretty much on average with the industry standard “. Which is an absolute b.s. answer. Brad had very little negotiating power, lowball him or tell him to take his averageness elsewhere

You are talking about 2 very different things. The buyout we owe Brad if we fire him without cause is not the same thing as the buyout Brad owes Clemson if he leaves for another job.
What Clemson would owe Brad is essentially $3m at the start of each contract year. It the goes down each month until resetting to $3m the next year.
If Brad leaves for another job he owes like $500k, although that figure changed each year. Details are in the article.

So, we sacrifice another year to save $3,000,000? It is a conundrum for some.

On paper, we are due for a lesser season next year anyway, that may play into the decision as well. Neff may not want to face the backlash that would certainly come his way from some, if he sacked a coach that made the NCAA Tourney this year. (I Would back him 100% in making that move now, by the way.)
