104 - A Record 104 Clemson Student-Athletes Just Graduated in May 2024!

I am very proud to have graduated from a school that values excellence on the field and in the classroom!
A school of higher education that graduates its athletes?

I did not have this topic on my original list, but when it came out that Clemson had set a new record this year for graduating its student-athletes, it certainly seemed worth celebrating!!
It appears that along with the 104 student athletes graduating, 43 students who participated in a sports-related capacity also graduated for 147 total. According to TigerNet:
“A total of 147 student-athletes and members of spirit squads and support staffs are set to graduate or receive certificates in conjunction with Clemson University’s Commencement ceremonies, held May 9-10, 2024 in Littlejohn Coliseum. The 104 student-athletes receiving degrees are the largest single graduation class on record and there are representatives from every Clemson sport.
In total, one hundred seventeen individuals have completed undergraduate degrees, while 22 have earned master’s degrees in the spring. Eight individuals have completed certificate programs in their fields of study as well.”

In the most recent release, Clemson Athletics set a department record with a 97 percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR) for the 2013-16 cohort in data released by the NCAA, the highest among all public Power Five programs. It was the tenth consecutive cohort in which Clemson’s department-wide GSR was at 91 percent or higher, and third in a row at 95 percent, one of three public Power Five schools nationally to make that claim. Clemson athletes also compiled a 991 Academic Progress Rate, its second-highest mark on record.”

Clemson RB Travis Zachery (1998-2001) grew up in a tough situation. Football was a ticket out.
ClemsonTigers.com wrote the following while Zachery was entering his senior season:
Zachery grew up in Marietta with his mother Katie, his two older sisters Crystal and Charita, and his older brother Michael. His mom raised all four children on her own while also working full-time as the shoe manager at a local department store. Zachery’s childhood was far from easy but it was his mom who held the family together even in the hardest of times. “My mom has definitely had the biggest influence on my life,” stated Zachery. “It has not been easy for our family and my mom has had to struggle to be able to support my brothers and sisters and I.

As the youngest of four children, Zachery became the first member of his family to attend college when he came to Clemson in the fall of 1997. As a red-shirt freshman in 1998, he started all 11 games and became the first freshman running back to start every game for the Tigers since Terry Allen in 1987. That season he also led the team in rushing and all-purpose yardage and was named an honorable mention freshman All-American by Football News.

Although his Clemson career was outstanding, I cannot find information on what he did after Clemson. As always, any insights anyone has would certainly be appreciated!
But I did find that in October 2019, Travis Zachery and Dexter McCleon were honored as Block C Club “Honorary Captains”
